The Plainfield South High School bands have commissioned a new work to be performed at its
May 24 concert. About 18 months ago the school helped to form a consortium of area band programs with the purpose of commissioning new works for band. The first product of this consortium is entitled Avenue X, written by composer Jonathan Newman. Information about Mr. Newman can be found on this link

The consortium includes 13 area high schools. All of the schools will be performing the "premier" of this new work on their May concert. Additionally the composer, Mr. Newman will be visiting Plainfield South on May 10 to work with the band as they prepare Avenue X for the concert. The visit will occur during the Wind Ensemble's normal rehearsal time from 11:59-12:49 at PSHS. Additional information about Avenue X and the consortium can be found at this link on the composers website

The May 24th concert will feature all three bands at PSHS (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble). In addition to the premier of Avenue X, the bands will recognize seniors and welcome the PSHS Concert Choir as guest performers. The concert is at 7 PM in the PSHS Auditorium. Admission is free.
