District 202 referendum information sessions scheduled
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 has placed a school construction referendum on the April 5 ballot to build 8 new schools (5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 high school) and
renovate and repair existing buildings. The new schools would open
between 2007 and 2009.
The district's enrollment growth of 2,400 new students each year is
larger that the total enrollment of 80% of Illinois school districts. If
the growth were evenly spread throughout the school year, the district
would need to add a new classroom every other day.
The tax impact for a $250,000 home is estimated to be a $39.17 increase
on the 2006 tax bill and then the rate is anticipated to remain stable.
If State School Construction Grants become available, the District would
use the money to offset the cost to local taxpayers. Since 1997,
District 202 has received $105 million in State School Construction
Grants which in turn has allowed the district to keep that money off of
tax bills. In order to be eligible to apply for State School
Construction Grants, the local community must first show its support by
approving a referendum.
Community members are invited to attend scheduled information
sessions to learn more about the referendum.
Attendees are asked to R.S.V.P. to (815) 577-4001.
If you would like to host an information session in your home or for
your organization, please contact Carla Erdey at (815) 577-4008 and she
will arrange for a speaker. As new sessions are added, they will be
added to the calendar on the school district website. There is also detailed information about
the referendum available on the website.
