Cave expert to visit Plainfield Central on March 16
An expert in cave biology will give a lecture in the auditorium at
Plainfield High School-Central Campus on Thursday, March 16. The
school's BioExplorations Club will present "Cave Biology in the
United States and Beyond" by Dr. Steve Taylor.
Taylor is an Associate Research Scientist at the University of
Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and is also a researcher for the Center for
Biodiversity at the Illinois Natural History Survey. He will discuss
cave formation, cave flora and fauna, and the unique ecosystems found in
caves throughout the United States.
Plainfield Central's BioExplorations Club actively promotes
understanding of a variety of ecological issues while providing outdoor
experiences to obtain scientific data.
Tickets for the lecture will be $3 for adults and $2 for students.
Children under the age of five years old will be admitted for free.
Proceeds from the event will help defray the costs of field supplies,
guides, speakers and travel expenses for the club.
Taylor's visit is on the heels of the BioExplorations Club's
spelunking trip to the Illinois Caverns in October.
Plainfield Central, one of three high schools in Plainfield Community
Consolidated School District 202, is located at 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive
in Plainfield.
