Plainfield Central, Ira Jones students earn honors

A freshman at Plainfield High School-Central Campus and an eighth grader at Ira Jones Middle School were recently honored by Area 11 of the Illinois Teachers of Hard of Hearing/Deaf Individuals (ITHI). Both were recognized as honorable mention selections in the Hearing Advocacy Students of the Year contest.

Students who entered the contest were required to compose an essay and secure nominations from their teachers. The focus of the contest is for students to advocate for themselves at school and in the rest of their lives.

Honorees will be recognized at the Hearing Advocacy Event at Lockport Central High School on Monday, March 13. Awards and prizes will be provided by Energizer Battery and ITHI.

All of the award winners will also appear in a video that both honors students who advocate for their hearing needs and motivates others to do the same.

For more information, contact District 202 Hearing Itinerant Teacher Cyndi Stacy at (815) 436-3200, ext. 1203.
