Plainfield Central finishes fourth in "Envirothon"
In its first-ever appearance in the competition, the BioExplorations
Club from Plainfield High School-Central Campus finished fourth of 36
teams in the Northeastern Regional Envirothon, held in Bartlett, Ill.,
on April 5.
The Envirothon combines classroom curriculum with hands-on experiences,
and helps to demonstrate the important role that people play in
environmental issues. Schools from nine Illinois counties competed in
the event. Plainfield Central finished fourth with 354 points (Will
County's top team), trailing only Woodstock High School (391),
Dundee-Crown High School (374) and Indian Creek High School (365).
As the top finisher, Woodstock advanced to the state competition in
Monticello in May. The state champion spends a week at the National
Canon Envirothon in Maryland in July.
Teams compete as a group in each category in both testing and lab
areas; all events are held outside.
Plainfield Central, one of three high schools in Plainfield Community
Consolidated School District 202, is located at 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive
in Plainfield.
