Middle school honor band slated to perform at festival on April 22
More than 100 band students from the five Plainfield Community
Consolidated School District 202 middle schools and St. Mary Immaculate
School have been chosen to be part of the Plainfield Middle School Honor
Band.
The group will come together for five hours of rehearsal with guest
conductor Dr. Deborah Sheldon, Associate Professor of Music Education at
Temple University, prior to its performance at the Plainfield
Invitational Concert Band Festival. The event is slated for Saturday,
April 22, at Plainfield High School-Central Campus (24120 W. Fort Beggs
Drive), and will feature 27 area high school and middle school bands.
Many students who have been chosen to participate in the honor band are
members of more than one band at their campus or play multiple
instruments. Each middle school band instructor nominated around 20
students from his or her school to take part in the event, which allows
students the opportunity to work with different band directors and to
come together to perform with other students from around the district.
Students were selected from District 202 middle schools Drauden Point,
Heritage Grove, Indian Trail, Ira Jones and Timber Ridge, as well as
from St. Mary's.
