Heritage Grove duo raises funds for Plainfield Humane Society
Two students in Amber Bechard's eighth grade accelerated language
arts class at Heritage Grove Middle School recently turned a class
project into a donation to the Plainfield Humane Society, and also
helped two pets find new homes.
The two developed their project proposal as a part of their
"Capstone" assignment; "Capstone" provides activities for an
economics course, helping students apply economic reasoning to a wide
range of real world subjects. They initially applied for a Disney grant
to conduct a service project, but when that grant did not materialize,
they still forged ahead with their plans.
On Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, Heritage Grove put on "The
Wizard of Oz" at Plainfield North High School. There, the two students
held a bake sale and raffle, and the Humane Society sent a
representative accompanied by three adoptable pets. In just two nights,
the Heritage Grove duo raked in $268, which was all donated to the
Humane Society. Additionally, two of those adoptable pets found homes,
including a dog aptly named "Toto."
Heritage Grove, one of five middle schools in Plainfield Community
Consolidated School District 202, is located at 12450 S. Van Dyke Road
in Plainfield.
