Plainfield Central to host pair of musical events
Plainfield High School-Central Campus will host a pair of events for the music lover in the coming days. On Monday, May 15, the school will present "Jazz Night at the Wildcat Café," and Thursday, May 18, will mark the school's annual Spring Band Concert.
"Jazz Night at the Wildcat Café" will take place in the school's main cafeteria, and is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature selections by the Plainfield Central jazz band (director: Dan Valkema), and the vocal jazz groups from both Plainfield Central (director: Matt Schlesinger) and Plainfield South High School (director: Sarah Drabant). Admission is $2, and refreshments will be available.
The Spring Band Concert will take place at Settlers' Park, which is located at 24000 W. Lockport Street (behind Plainfield's Village Hall), and is slated for a 6 p.m. start. The Plainfield Central symphonic band (directors: Valkema and Polly Middleton) will be joined by the bands from Indian Trail Middle School (director: J.J. Fleming) and Timber Ridge Middle School (directors: Marybeth Miller and Jeanette Soebbing).
Plainfield Central's band will feature solos from two seniors who won the band's concerto competition. One will perform Alexandre Guilmant's "Morceau Symphonique," and the other will play Mozart's "Concerto in B flat (Movement III)."
In case of inclement weather, the Spring Band Concert will be moved to
the Plainfield Central auditorium.
