Bonnie McBeth uses grant from Target to supplement music education program
Bonnie McBeth Learning Center is the recipient of a $2000 grant from
Target, which is being used to supplement and improve the school's
music education program.
Teacher Linda Davis applied for the grant, and the school learned of
the award in November. The grant is part of an ongoing effort by Target
to strengthen families and communities across the nation, with a focus
on education, the arts, social services and other vital community
partnerships.
Musician Carole Peterson has already led a teacher's in-service at
the school, and she will return for a series of presentations for
students on Thursday, May 11. Peterson has been referred to as the
'Pied Piper of active music' for children in Chicagoland. Her
energetic style and enthusiasm invites even the smallest child to follow
her in singing, dancing and rhythmic movement.
Peterson will perform mini-concerts at 8:15 a.m., 9:05 a.m., 9:55 a.m.,
12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on May 11.
With the remainder of the grant funds, Bonnie McBeth plans on
purchasing a series of Peterson's compilations for use in classroom
education, and will also purchase materials so that students can make
their own musical instruments.
Bonnie McBeth, the early learning program in Plainfield Community
Consolidated School District 202, is located at 15730 Howard Street in
Plainfield.
