Plainfield South students excel in "SMART Challenge"
Six Plainfield South High School students have been honored for 'top
five' performances in the Illinois Worldwide Youth in Science (WYSE)
and Engineering SMART Challenge. Freshman and sophomore students from
the school's honors English, mathematics and science classes, as well
as business students, took part in the event from April 4-7.
The WYSE created the competition to encourage ninth and tenth grade
students to persevere in math and science. The SMART Challenge consists
of tests in biology, chemistry, English, math and business. Plainfield
South has participated in the event for two years as a way to prepare
students for the PSAT, ACT and PSAE standardized tests.
In the Consumer Education and General Business competition, students
were responsible for first-, third- and fifth-place finishes. In the
Biology competition, the school took away third- and fifth-place
finishes.
Plainfield South, one of three high schools in Plainfield Community
Consolidated School District 202, is located at 7800 W. Caton Farm Road
in Plainfield.
