Plainfield Academy asking for community's help with nursery project
With financial help in the form of grants from British Petroleum and
the Plainfield School District Foundation for Excellence, Plainfield
Academy's students have embarked on one of the most ambitious service
learning projects in the state of Illinois. On August 12, the school is
asking the community to lend a hand with that project.
Plainfield Academy students have created a Tree and Perennial Nursing
Project, adjacent to the district's operations building at 914 Eastern
Avenue in Plainfield. The project will provide renewable landscaping
stock for Plainfield School District 202 properties, the Plainfield Park
District, and other not-for-profit organizations in Will County. As the
project grows, Plainfield Academy students may also market and sell the
stock to area residents.
From 8 a.m. until noon on August 12, Plainfield Academy is asking its
graduates, parents of current students and any other community members
that love gardening to help maintain the future nursery. Pulling weeds,
spreading mulch and planting perennials, among other duties, are on the
slate of activities for the day.
Community participants who donate their time and bring cuttings of
Daylilies or Irises from their own gardens to add to the nursery will
receive a $5 gift certificate to Magnolia Coffee Shoppe, located at 530
Lockport Street in downtown Plainfield.
