District 202 names Tom Hernandez to administrative post

The Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 Board of Education announced the hiring of Tom Hernandez as its Director of Community Relations at its October 23 meeting. His first day with District 202 was November 15.

Hernandez has amassed nearly two decades of experience as either a reporter or an educational administrator. He joins District 202 after serving for five years as the Director of Communications for Community Unit School District 303 in St. Charles, Ill. Prior to that, he completed a five-year stint as a Principal Communications Manager at the Illinois State Board of Education's Chicago office.

Hernandez began his career by serving a combined eight years as a reporter for the Aurora Beacon News and the Pioneer Press, and has served as a community columnist for the Plainfield Sun since 1998.

He received his bachelor's degree in communications/journalism from Lewis University in 1988. He and his family reside in Plainfield.
