PLAINFIELD, ILL. - The football program at Plainfield North High School will be eligible for postseason competition this year after Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Executive Director Dr. Marty Hickman lifted sanctions that were imposed against the team on September 18, 2006.
The IHSA directed the school to develop and implement a remediation plan to educate coaches and other appropriate personnel regarding IHSA by-laws. Dr. Hickman met with members of the District 202 administrative staff on Wednesday, September 27, to discuss the district’s proposal, and has accepted its remediation plan.
In a statement to the school from the IHSA, Hickman stated, “Your football program is now officially in good standing and should your football team qualify for the IHSA playoffs, the team will be permitted to participate.”
Sanctions levied against Plainfield North’s football program on September 18 prohibited the school from participating in the IHSA Football Playoffs for a period of two years, but those sanctions have been dropped, and the team will be eligible for participation immediately.
“As soon as the IHSA made its announcement regarding the sanctions against Plainfield North, we made reinstating the team’s eligibility for postseason competition a top priority,” District 202 Superintendent Dr. John Harper said.
There has been no change in sanctions levied against Plainfield North coaches or administrators.
Plainfield North is one of three high schools in District 202, and is located at 12005 S. 248th Street in Plainfield. District 202 is currently comprised of 25 schools that serve more than 26,500 students.
