Eagle Pointe offers "Parents as Partners" literacy event on October 19
Parents at Eagle Pointe Elementary School can become better acquainted with how their children are learning to read at the school's "Parents as Partners" program, which will take place at the school from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 19.
"Parents as Partners" is an event for parents to learn about literacy strategies, activities and resources that the Eagle Pointe staff uses in literacy instruction. Parents will have a variety of informative sessions from which they can choose to attend, including comprehension strategies, guided reading, phonemic awareness, fluency and other subjects.
The goal of the evening is for parents to gain a greater understanding of literacy instruction, which should allow them to enhance the support they give their children in literacy endeavors. Additionally, parent involvement encourages a child's love of reading, improves a child's overall reading skills and comprehension, and provides families with an opportunity to share in an educational activity with each other.
The school received a campus grant from the District 202 Foundation for Excellence in January 2006 to fund this program, and the October 19 event is the third such event the school has held in the program.
Eagle Pointe is one of 14 elementary schools in Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202, and is located at 24562 Norwood Drive in Plainfield.
