District 202 Education Partners, hello...
If this week's round of District 202 news were snow! If anyone dares to say that nothing is happening in District 202, point them to this week's "Education Partners" dispatch (and of course, encourage them to subscribe)...
First, a few notes:
- The Board of Education will meet in regular session Monday, February 25, 2008 at the District 202 Administrative Center, 15732 Howard Street, Plainfield. The public portion of the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. The full agenda will be posted today on the District 202 web site (www.psd202.org) under "Board Docs."
- Kudos to Dr. Carmen Acevedo, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and Dr. Hilda Rivera, director of English Language Learner programming, who spoke again this week before the Illinois State Board of Education about the challenges public schools will face because of changes in regulations regarding state testing of English Language Learner students. Educators believe these changes will significantly impact our ability to meet state and federal requirements for academic progress among ELL students, which will in turn affect our district's standing, too. We continue to beat the drum, to improve learning and teaching for all of our students.
- Speaking of educators doing great things: Kudos to Freedom Elementary Principal Curtis Hudson, who was inducted recently into the East Aurora High School Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments; Plainfield High School -- Central Campus Assistant Boys Track Coach Marc Jones who was named Assistant Track Coach of the Year; and to Liberty Elementary first grade teacher Ellen Sherer, who was named the VFW Teacher of the Year. More information is posted below on each of these achievements.
- Our students are not to be outdone: congratulations to the 123 high school students named Illinois State Scholars; Drauden Point, Indian Trail, Heritage Grove, Ira Jones and Timber Ridge middle schools for receiving state academic achievement awards; and to the District 202 high school students chosen to perform with the Southwest Prairie Conference Honor Bands. More information on each of these accomplishments is posted below.

Have a great weekend...
