District 202 Education Partners, hello!
Anyone besides me absolutely love the cool down and the rain yesterday? I - and my lawn - would love another two or three days' worth...
While we wait for that drenching, however, there is, as always, more news this week about District 202's efforts to improve learning, teaching and student achievement. See the list of stories and photos posted below. But first, a few important notes:
-
The District 202 Board of Education will meet in regular session on Monday, September 8, 2008 at Plainfield High School-Central Campus, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive. The public portion of the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. in the school media center. The full meeting agenda will be posted later today on the District 202 web site ( www.learningcommunity202.org) under "Board Docs."

Bess Eichelberger Elementary School staff and administration is looking for parents interested in reading to the school's students, as part of the school's "Gator Readers Program". This volunteer program will allow students to share their own growing confidence in reading and build a love for reading. Interested parents should be able to work with students during their literacy center time at least once per week. The school will host two orientation sessions for parents at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008. For more information please contact Beth Downey at (815) 577-3606 or bdowney@learningcommunity202.org.

Charles Reed Elementary School invites its English Language Learner (ELL) students and their families to the school's "Sundae Fun Day with my Family/Dia de Helado con mi Familia" event on Thursday, October 2, 2008. This night of fun, learning and cultural celebrations is designed to help all ELL families feel comfortable in, and learn about, the school. See the item below for more information.

We've posted new information about the 2008 Community Homecoming on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Plainfield High School-Central Campus, and Plainfield North and East high schools will all participate in the community parade. Plainfield South will host its own activities the week of October 6-11, 2008. Visit the district web site, click on "Community," and then on "Homecoming" for more information.

Finally, an important reminder:
Some families in the Eagle Pointe Elementary School area this week were approached by a solicitor trying to sell school-related products. She made it sound (vaguely) like she was working in connection with District 202. Here's the scoop: the solicitor's company is real. But the solicitor has/had nothing to do with our school district. Nor was not following Plainfield village rules for conducting door-to-door sales. Residents in the area communicated with each other, tracked the solicitor's whereabouts and activities and called the police. Her village permit has since been revoked. This small incident shows the power of neighbors paying attention and working together to keep their neighborhood safe.
