Plainfield Fitness Center Program

Most people participating in an exercise program are interested in getting a maximum return on the time they invest. A structured program, like the one offered at the Plainfield Fitness Center, will definitely meet that need. Our program offers the safest and most efficient use of time to each client. For many adults, the only formal exercise experience may have been in their high school physical education class, so circuit weight training is an excellent opportunity to begin exercising again.

As previously mentioned, our program is based upon the research done by the Cooper Institute. For a few years the Plainfield Fitness Center was operated as a sattelite branch of the Joliet Junior College Fitness Center. Beginning in May, 1996 the Plainfield Fitness Center became a self-sustaining operation, thanks to the committment by our School Board and by the Administration, in particular Dr. David Stanfield, Superintendent of District 202 and Mr. Steve Langert, Director of Business and Financial Services.

What to Expect From the Orientation

  1. There will be some paperwork to fill out:
    1. Biographical: This informs the staff about pre-existing medical concerns, for example blood pressure 140-90 or higher will require a Doctors written permission. This is not a problem normally and a note can be faxed to the high school 439-2882.
    2. Registration Form: This allows us to enter this information into the center's computer system.
    3. Waiver: With any form of exercise there is an element of risk. The instructors are there to make sure you are exercising correctly and safely. Our responsibility is to point out to the client any incorrect form of exercising and it is the client's responsibility to follow those instructions.
  2. Pre-Testing will be conducted. Before starting any exercise program, it is essential to do some fitness testing. This pretest helps the staff assess the participant's current level of fitness and helps start the circuit weight training with the correct amount of weight (plates). An individualized program will be designed for each client.
    1. Pre-Test: You will be tested at each weight station so the proper number of plates can be assigned for use during the 30 second workout.
  3. The fitness center staff will input the personal information into the center's data base. A personalized circuit fitness program will be developed for each client.
  4. The instructor will demonstrate the correct way to use each piece of equipment and continue to closely supervise them until they can safely use each piece of equipment.
  5. Frequency of Exercise: The effectiveness of the circuit weight training programs has been well established. A client can anticipate improvements in cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and loss of body fat when he/she can participate in the program for a minumum of 3 to 4 times per week. The circuit is designed to work all the major muscle groups and to elevate the heart rate to a rate that provides a cardiovascular experience as the client uses the stationary bicycles and/or steppers located between each weight station during the workout.
