Speed-A-Way Rules
I. The Game
A. Speed-A-Way is a combination of soccer, basketball and football.
B. It is played by two teams of eleven players, who line up on their own half of the
field at the beginning of each quarter and after each score.
C. The game consists of four quarters of eight minutes each.
D. The ball is put in play by a place-kick by the center forward.
E. The object of the game is for each team to advance the ball down the opponent’s
half of the field by means of kicking, dribbling, heading, or shouldering a ground
ball, by throwing an aerial ball or by running with an aerial ball.
F. Scoring:
1. A field goal scores three points and is scored by kicking the ball between the
opponent’s goal posts from within the striking circle.
2. A touchdown scores two points and is scored by:
a. Running across the endline with the ball or
b. Passing the ball to another player over the endline, not between the goal posts.
3. A drop kick may be taken from anywhere on the field outside the striking circle. If it passes
over the crossbar and between the goal posts, four points are scored.

II. Four ways to convert a ground ball to an aerial ball:
A. Toe lift to partner.
B. Roll up the leg.
C. Two legged lift to yourself.
D. Reverse to yourself.

III. Playing Privileges
A. The ball may be played with the hands as long as it is an aerial ball.
1.A kicked ball which takes only one bounce may be picked up and played as an
aerial ball.
2. A ball which is thrown and takes one bounce can not be played as an aerial ball,
except by the goalkeeper.
3. If a player touches an aerial ball with her hands and the ball then touches the
ground, the ball must be played as a ground ball.
B. A ground ball can be converted TO AN AERIAL BALL ONLY BY THE FEET.
C. A player who has legally caught the ball can run, throw, punt, drop-kick, air dribble,
or play the ball as a ground ball.
D. Once the player has moved with the ball, she can be tackled by pulling her flag.
E. A player may hold the ball three seconds either standing still or pivoting before she
must throw or move with the ball.
F. A player may guard an opponent just like basketball.
G. The goalkeeper may handle the ball anytime or anywhere on the field.
H. Beyond the 25 yard line the ball must be passed three times after a throw-in or a
penalty corner before a player can score.

IV. Penalties for Fouls
A. Outside the striking circle.
1. A free kick (place kick) for the opposing team from the spot where the foul occurred.
2. All players must be five yards away.
B. Inside the striking circle.
1. For a foul by the offensive team, a free kick (place kick) for the defending team
from any point on the circle; all players must be five yards away.
2. For a foul by the defending team a penalty corner by the attacking team.

V. Out-of-bounds
A. Over the side line.
1. The ball is thrown in from the spot the ball left the field.
2. Beyond the 25 yard line, three passes must be made before a touchdown can be scored.
3. All players must be five yards away.
B. Over the end line
1. The ball is put in play 5 yards from the goal posts by a throw-in, place-kick, punt or drop-kick.
2. Three passes must be made before a touchdown can be scored
3. All players must be 5 yard away.
