Prairie State
Achievement Testing
All Plainfield High School juniors are required to take the Prairie
State Achievement Examination (PSAE). The PSAE is a series of
tests used by the Illinois State Board of Education to measure the
achievement of grade 11 students relative to the Illinois Learning
Standards for reading, writing, mathematics, science and social
science. The PSAE also comprises the ACT assessment in English, reading, mathematics, and
science as well as the WorkKeys test in Reading for Information and Applied Math. Students are encouraged to practice for the WorkKeys portion of the test using the Key Train program.
The ACT Test is a group of four tests (English Usage, Mathematics,
Reading, and Science Reasoning) as well as a written portion
administered by ACT and required or recommended by many colleges and
universities as part of their admission process. Locally, the
test is administered at Plainfield Central High School and Joliet
Junior College.
Students can register on-line at the above link, or pick up a
registration packet in Student Services.
The SAT is an examination that measures the two sets of skills that you
will need to do college-level work in any academic area and is required
or recommended by certain colleges and universities as part of their
admission process.
Students can register online at the above link, or pick up a
registration packet in Student Services.
The PLAN test is administered to our Sophomore students in the fall. The PLAN test is considered a "pre-ACT" test, which can be a powerful predictor of success on the ACT Assessment. The PLAN has a Career Interest Inventory called UNIACT. This component helps students explore personally relevant career options.
The PSAT/NMSQT is a "practice" SAT test and is an examination that
qualifies students for awards and scholarships administered through the
National Merit Scholarship Commission (NMSC). This examination is
offered to interested college-bound juniors and selected sophomores
that are enrolled in honors programs. Information about
registration
will be available in Student Services in mid-September.
The Advanced Placement Program provides students with the opportunity
to take first year college-level courses while they are still in high
school. AP courses are taught by high school teachers following
AP course outlines provided by the College Board. Students
enrolled in AP courses at Plainfield Central High School will be
notified in May regarding registration to take AP Exam(s).
For an AP course listing, please see our 2010-2011Curriculum
Guide.
