MINUTES OF PLAINFIELD SOUTH COUGAR BOOSTER MEETING

Held November 12, 2007 at Plainfield South High School

Call to Order:  Kevin Voda called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.

 

Secretary’s Report:  Lynn Confiliano submitted the minutes for the October 1, 2007, meeting.  The minutes were reviewed by those in attendance and approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Lisa Heistand reported that Mr. Cougar Night made $1,200.  Also, the taxes have been taken care of and the name is officially Cougar Boosters.  The current balance is $5,788.16.

 

Guest Speaker:  Tom Hernandez, from the District Office, discussed the importance of communication between parents, taxpayers, and the schools.  He wants an aggressive outreach to the community.  Also, parents should contact the district when something good has occurred.  The Education Partners Newsletter is a good source of information.  To place information on the Education Partners Newsletter, contact Mr. Hernandez at (815) 577-4008.  To receive the newsletter, sign up on the web site.

 

Principal’s Report:  Dan Goggins thanked the Homecoming Committee, those who worked concessions, and all volunteers, for their work during Homecoming Week.  Approximately 1,400 students attended the dance.

 

Mr. Goggins discussed curriculum initiatives.  Next year, graduation requirements will change.  Biology, Physics, and Chemistry will all be required next year.  More advanced placement classes have been added.  Students are now able to attend an ACT preparation class after school.  Next year, students can take an ACT preparation class during the day as an elective.

 

On October 30, 2007, twenty families were represented attending the Cougar Caravan.  The next Cougar Caravan will be held during the spring.

 

Scott Albright stated that contacts have been made for conferences.  Counselors have made 340 contacts.  Mr. Goggins said the goal is to have parental contact. 

 

November 13, 2007, there will be a student/principal reception.  Students will get to talk about Plainfield South High School with Mr. Goggins.

 

Athletic Director’s Report:  Bob Yanello reported that athletics are between seasons.  The winter season will kick in on November 5, 2007.  He thanked parents for helping with concessions.  As of this date, $2,100 has been given to clubs that have worked concessions.

 

Starting this week, if a student has a D or F in a class, they will be placed on a warning list and a letter will be sent home.  Another letter will be sent if the student becomes ineligible.  The Parent Web Module is noted in the letter.

 

Activity Director’s Report:  Mr. Albright reported that all activities are up and running.  The Chess Club has started.

 

Committee Reports: 

 

Concessions:  Mike Serafini reported that there is currently $14,831 in the account.  A GFS check has not cleared.  Available funds are $9,100.  People are interested in volunteering to run concessions.  Mr. Serafini suggested that food be brought to the stands during games.  The Will County Health Department came and the concession area passed inspection.  Mr. Serafini is looking at prices for a three-part sink for the outside concession area and a cash register.

 

Old Business:  None.

 

New Business:  Mr. Voda discussed the bowling fundraiser, which will be held Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 9:00 p.m.  All alleys at Town and Country have been reserved.  Volunteers are needed to help organize.  If anyone has ideas or gifts, contact Mr. Voda.

 

Mr. Yanello discussed a fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings.  Groups can go in and receive a percentage back.  Mr. Voda suggested a Booster Club Night at Buffalo Wild Wings.
