2006-07 Clubs & Activities

 

Animé Club 
(Ms. Testen)

Animé Club is open to all Plainfield South students.  Its focus is on learning about the art of animé in Japanese culture.  No membership fees.

Art Club 
(Ms. Candela)

Open to all Plainfield South High School students.  The Art Club promotes the display of artwork in the community and school building.  This club provides the opportunity for students interesting in art to expand their artistic experiences, beautify the school and community, and display and create artwork as an individual and as a group.  No membership fees.

 

The Blue & White Review 
(Ms. Hornik)

The Blue & White Review features the creative prose, poetry, and artwork of Plainfield South High School Students.  Membership is open to all students with an interest in literary or art publications.  No membership fees.

Book Club
(Ms. Mazur)

The book club is open to all students who love to read. The club chooses a different Young Adult title to read each month and discuss over food and activities related to reading. No membership fees.

 

Chess Club/Team
(Mr. Vladika)

Students learn and play chess.  Both competitive and non-competitive players are welcome!  Competitive players will participate in conference matches and chess tournaments, while non-competitive players can just come out to play some leisurely chess a few times a week.  No membership fees.

 

Class Councils

Class officers and representatives help plan activities for their class and participate in various fundraisers throughout the school year.  Officers and representatives are elected by the student body.  No membership fees.

 

Computer Club 
(Mr. Hillegonds)

Computer Club helps to explore students’ interest in computers and the internet.  Membership is open to all students.  No membership fees.

 

Cougar Club
(Mr. Christensen)

            The Cougar Club is a unique club that serves two purposes.  To promote social interaction and to provide experiences that allows students to think about society and themselves from a different perspective.  No membership fees.

 

Drama Club 

(Ms. Nemanich)

Students meet to discuss current theatrical events, see a professional production, and work on improving their craft.  Students may be eligible to become part of the International Thespian Society.  Student-Directed One-Acts are produced by the Drama Club in May.  There is no membership fee.

Ecology Club 
(Mr. Scanlan)


Solutions Club members have an interest in environmental issues and nature.  Members help plan Earth Day activities.  Membership is open to all students.  No membership fees.

 

Fall Play 
(Ms. Nemanich)

Students produce a theatrical production in the fall.  Auditions are held in September.  Students create the production through acting, stagecraft, sound, and lighting.  Three performances are given in November.  There is an activity fee.

 

Foreign Language Honor Societies- French / German 

(Ms. Swistak, Ms. Miller, Ms. Johnson)

These honor societies recognize students who excel in languages.  Students must meet specific academic requirements in the language, be a junior or senior, and complete at least four semesters of study in the language in order to be eligible for induction into the society.  Members of each society participate in language club activities and work to promote the study and culture of each language in the school and the community.  Membership fees vary.

 

French Club

French Club provides activities to promote the interest in culture and customs of France and other French-speaking countries.  Membership is open to all students.  No membership fees.

 

Gamers Club

The Gamers Club is open to all PSHS students who play and/or would like to learn to play any non-electronic games. These games include tabletop simulation games, card games, board games, etc. No membership fees

 

German Club

German Club provides activities that promote the culture and customs of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.  Membership is open to all students.  No membership fees.

 

Interact Club 
(Ms. Kay)

Interact Club is a service organization sponsored by Plainfield’s Rotary International.  Members perform service projects for those in need.  No membership fees.

Key Club 

(Ms. Nackovic)

Key Club is an international organization sponsored by Kiwanis.  Membership is open to all students.  There is a membership fee.

 

Madrigal Singers 

(Mr. Ruge)

Madrigal Singers present a madrigal dinner in early December and perform at concerts and community events.  Membership is by audition of students involved in a music ensemble.  No membership fees.

 

Math Club/Competition

Math Club meets weekly to prepare for upcoming competitions.  Math Club is open to all students.  There is a membership fee.

 

Multi-Cultural Club 

(Ms. Ricciardi)

Membership is open to all students wishing to promote tolerance, respecting and valuing diversity, and learning more about racial and ethnic issues.  No membership fees.

 

National Honor Society 

(Ms. Mezger)

National Honor Society is an honorary organization open to juniors and seniors by invitation only on the basis of scholarship, leadership, character, and service.  Members must participate in at least 30 hours of community service.  There is a membership fee.


Operation Snowball

(Ms McNulty)

Operation Snowball (OS) is a prevention program focusing on leadership development to empower youth to lead drug-free lives.  The OS program provides opportunities for student leaders and faculty to work together to establish fundraisers, activities, and training so that we can better educate the students in our schools about substance abuse and other important adolescent themes.  The final product of their efforts will take place at a memorable camp retreat at the end of the school year that will involve a number of high school students interacting in cooperative games and educational workshops. No membership fee but there will be a charge for the actual overnight Snowball Activity.

The Paw Print / School Newspaper 

(Ms. Pennisi)

Students participate in all aspects of a school newspaper.  Members must be in 10th grade or higher and enrolled in Advanced Writing: Journalism or Journalism II.  Membership is limited to 60 people.  No membership fees.

 

Peer Mediation Club 

Peer Mediation is a program designed to allow students to resolve conflicts with the assistance of trained student mediators.  The mediators guide the disputants through a problem-solving process.  Mediations are held in strict confidentiality.  Mediators must complete training in the Fall or Spring before being eligible to mediate.  No membership fees.

 

Pep Band
(Mr Kleinmaier)

The Pep Band is a co-curricular, voluntary activity. The Pep Band rehearses and performs at varsity basketball games throughout the winter months. Any student may participate in Pep Band. While no auditions is needed, director approval is required. No membership fees.

P.R.I.S.M. 
(Ms. Floros)

PRISM promotes understanding, tolerance, and pride among all PSHS students.  Membership is open to all students.  No membership fees.

 

PSHS Bands 

(Mr. Cook)

Placement in each group by ability level.  Membership requirements include previous experience in performance on a wind or percussion instrument.  No membership fees except for Marching Band and Color Guard.

 

PSHS Choirs

PSHS Choirs perform at various concerts and activities.  Placement is by audition of students.  Membership fee is required.

 

Scholastic Bowl 

(Mr. Lee)

Scholastic Bowl involves team competitions that cover a wide variety of academic subjects.  Membership is open to all students.  There is a membership fee.

 

Science Club 

(Mr. Hall)

Science Club provides opportunities to develop science concepts through experimentation and to meet others on campus with an interest in science.  Membership is open to all students having an interest in science.  No membership fees.

 

Spanish Club 

(Ms. Johnson)

Spanish Club provides students with opportunities for cross-cultural awareness and participation in authentic cultural experiences native to Spanish-speaking countries.  Membership is open to all students.  No membership fees.

Speech Team 

(Ms. Nemanich)

Speech Team members participate in competitive speech and dramatic performances in 13 different events.  Top competitors advance to sectional and state competitions sponsored by the IHSA.  Membership is determined by reading audition in October/November.  Auditions are open to all students.  There is a membership fee.

 

Spring Musical 

(Mr. Ruge)

The Spring Musical is held each year following winter break.  This is generally a very large production including over 80 students participating in the cast, construction crew, technical crew, and pit orchestra.  Look for announcements in mid-December.  There is an activity fee.

 

Student Council 

(Ms. Malcolm)

Student Council members provide an effective voice in student affairs.  Any student can be a member of Student Council.  Student Council officers are elected every year from the active membership.  No membership fees.

 

Yearbook 

(Mr. Sadler)

Students in grades 10-12 may participate. Advanced software is taught and applied by students to produce the yearbook.  Digital Imaging skills will also be taught.  Yearbook meets during the school day during study hall (membership is limited to 30).  No membership fees.

 

Youth Alive 

(Ms. Groszczyk)

Youth Alive’s purpose is to strengthen relationships through religious discussions and activities.  Activities occur after school hours.  Membership is open to all students.  No membership fees.
