| Adventure Challenge emphasizes cooperative learning, problem solving, and team building activities. This class is an experiential based learning process where students are encouraged to take an active role in their education. Using physical challenges, students will develop self-esteem through group and individual accomplishment, enhance social skills with others, increase their ability to problem solve, and develop leadership skills. Fitness activities and concepts will be emphasized two days per week. | ||

| Major units of study include introduction jazz, lyrical, beginning hip-hop, improvisation, and choreography. Skills that are developed through this course include grace, balance, correct posture, rhythm, coordination, and agility. Students also learn correct dance vocabulary for numerous steps as well as dance history. Fitness activities and concepts will be emphasized two days per week. Dance 1 may not be repeated for credit. | ||

| Driver Education, First Aid, and Safety will promote the development of citizens who will learn the traffic regulations and laws, and will become safe and responsible users of the highway transportation system. This program uses an integrated approach to the classroom phase of driver education and the behind the wheel phase. Red Cross first aid and safety curriculum, along with the Red Cross adult and infant CPR are included. All sophomores, juniors, and seniors under the age of eighteen must successfully complete all phases of Driver Education prior to receiving a State of Illinois Driver's License. | ||

| Fitness-Program Design is part of a Sophomore-year sequence along with Driver Education/CPR/Safety. This class is oriented toward program design and discovery of fitness activities. Classroom time may include units of study such as Fitness Concepts, Goal Setting, Nutrition, and Consumer Health. Numerous physical activities will be offered that are health related. Step aerobics, dance, walking, circuit training, jogging, and roller blading are a few of the activities that are offered. Students will experience various activities and, as part of their final research project, will design and present their own individual fitness program. | ||

| The purpose of this course is to promote health and wellness as a way of life. Emphasis will be placed on creating a healthy lifestyle. Topical areas will include: mental health & stress managements, personality development, nutrition & body systems, drug abuse prevention, healthy relationships, disease prevention, challenge education, fitness, movement skills and team activities. This is a full year class with both the health and physical education requirements being met. | ||

| Leadership Training is designed to promote and enhance leadership qualities in the upper-class student. The student will be assigned to either a freshman wellness or a sophomore fitness program design class. The student will develop an understanding of the importance of responsibility, reliability, cooperation, initiative, creativity, and adaptability. Their major responsibilities include officiating, small group instruction, assisting the teacher, and serving as a role model. | ||

| The purpose of Modified Physical Education is to provide opportunities for those students who need an individual education plan for medical or other reasons by providing positive educational experiences in physical education. Students in Modified Physical Education will be able to develop skills relating to strength, coordination, flexibility and social skills. Each student will have an individual program. | ||

| This class is an integrated class between the Physical Education and the Family & Consumer Sciences departments. The curriculum will be a two-part integrated course in which students will be able to understand the nutritional value of food and participate in various fitness and stress management activities to develop a total wellness approach to health. Students will alternate between the wellness segment and the nutrition segment. The course will be team taught. A student may receive credit for either Family and Consumer Sciences or Physical Education, but not both. This course may not be repeated. | ||

| This course is offered to juniors and seniors who are interested in rules, regulations, and proper mechanics in officiating selected games, sports, and activities. Students will complete a practicum in conjunction with team activities classes. Students who compete the course will be given the opportunity to obtain ISHA licenses in a number of desired activities. In addition, students will be given information on certified IHSA assignment staff in each of those activities. The activities include baseball, softball, football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, and track. Fitness activities and concepts will be emphasized two days per week. This course may be repeated for credit, but not for the same term. | ||

| Skills for Healthy Living is designed to promote and provide the skills and concepts necessary for a healthy lifestyle. This class will be divided into two components. Three days per week (MWF) the studetns will be in a health classroom. Two days per week (TR) the students will participate in Fitness Club. The health component may include the study of illness and disease prevention, healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, adulthood, aging, healthy choices for life, and environmental concerns. Fitness Club will offer opportunities for the students to work out in a wide variety of activities. This semester-long course must be taken in the student's junior year. It may not be repeated for credit. | ||
