Hello future Calc Student!!!!!
Boy are you in for it. But don’t worry, this is a good
thing. You will actually understand math this year, even if you’ve never
understood it in the past. Your teacher will be amazing; I had the best calc
teacher in the world, and you might be just as lucky. So how do you pass this
class?
Easy: follow directions, take notes, pay attention, and do
your homework. It’s not difficult if you don’t make it difficult. The quizzes
aren’t the easiest, but they’re definitely not impossible. Just study your
notes and look over the homework and you will rock. Don’t forget to laugh and
have fun. You are a senior, and as such, entitled to a fun year. This is by far
the best math to have senior year.
Now, although this is titled to be an honors class, it
preps you for the AP test. Have you ever taken one of these tests? They’re
like, the mother of all tests. But fear not, you will be completely prepared to
take this mother of all math tests by May, so don’t freak out about it just
yet…now the night of the test, feel free to panic all you like. But if you do
well on the quizzes and tests, take this AP test. If not, consult your teacher.
They’ll tell ya how it is.
Singing is a valuable tool that is used frequently. I like
to sing. I’m absolutely the worst singer you will ever meet but that doesn’t
stop me, so don’t let ANYTHING stop you. You will learn the coolest songs in
Calc to help you remember different equations, rules, etc. The only downfall to
this is once you learn the calc lyrics, you tend to forget the actual ones and
will catch yourself humming the First Derivative instead of the First Noel. But
it’s all good, don’t sweat it. And make sure your teachers let you go Christmas
Caroling during the holiday season. We went classroom to classroom and sang the
most wonderful Christmas songs…with math lyrics of course. It was amazing. Be
amused. Be very amused.
So, in short, have fun. Don’t stress out, have fun with
your class, get to know your teacher because if you get the same teacher as me,
it’ll take you like, all of a second to figure out she’s the best. If you
don’t, I’m sure your teacher will be just as amazing, so take the same advice.
AP test = monster test that eats your brains. Take it, it’s not as bad as it
sounds. Smile my friend, this is your last year…don’t stop smiling.
--Yours Truly
