“… we would like to help students
develop…mathematical power, that is,
the ability to explore, conjecture, and reason
logically;
to solve non-routine problems,
to communicate about and through mathematics;
and to connect ideas within mathematics
and between mathematics and other disciplines…”

ORGANIZATION
OF DAILY LESSONS
Lesson
·
Daily Warm-Ups get students doing math from the beginning
of the period
·
Provides key concepts, relevant vocabulary, and meaningful
examples
·
Places topics in a real world setting to provide students
with a perspective as to why that are studying these topics
·
Often discovery or technology oriented
The 18 week grade is based on the following weighted
categories
·
Homework most of the time is worth 5 points. This is given almost DAILY! It is rare if I don’t assign homework!
5 points: Work is
shown for each problem, graphs, and/or diagrams are drawn, after marking the
incorrect answers, corrections are made!
4 points: 1-3
problems are not complete or necessary work is not shown, homework corrections
have not been
3 points: 4-8
problems are not complete or necessary work is not shown, homework corrections
have not been made
1 point: Over
one-half of the assignments is not complete or necessary work is not shown.
0 points: The
assignment is present at time of check.
·
DEAR- Drop Everything And Read
5 points: Reading
material is brought to class and read.
4 points:
Disrupted class once or was warned once to read.
3 points:
Disrupted class twice or was warned twice to read.
1 point:
Disrupted class numerous times or was warned numerous times to read
0 points: Did not
bring any reading material to class or did not read. There are makeup possibilities if reading material was not
brought to class.
·
Warm Ups are to be completed during the first five minutes
of class. You will need to write out
the entire problem, legibly, show all work and include a solution. They will be collected at the end of each week
for 5 points, one point per day.
·
Points for notes vary from chapter to chapter and will be
checked at the end of every unit.
·
Points for quizzes and tests vary from chapter to chapter.
·
There may be projects that will incorporate all the TEAM
CLASSES!
All homework is due at the beginning of class
on the given due date.
1 day late = ˝ credit
2 days late = 0
Projects 10% off per day late
If you are ABSENT…
Homework:
If you are absent, you are
expected to turn in the homework that was due the day you missed on the day you
return. (Hopefully you have your
homework done before you get sick!)
When you return it is YOUR
responsibility to find out what you missed! Upon returning you will need to write down your missed
assignments from the agenda board. If
you were absent on the day a worksheet was handed out, your worksheet will be
in the folder located by the agenda board.
Remember, you have one
day for each day missed to get the work turned in. After that, the work will be considered late
and will fall under the above guidelines.
As you are catching up with the work you missed, be sure not to neglect
the homework assigned when you return.
Tardies - Refer to student handbook. Remember must be in
assigned seat when bell rings.
No Food, drink, gum, or
electronic devices are allowed in class.
All Rules apply when a
substitute teacher is teaching!
The overall final grade is
based on 80% of the 18 week grade and 20% of the Final Exam grade.
90-100% A 80-89% B 70-79% C
60-69%D 0-59% F
Progress Reports will be
sent out every 6 weeks.
