Dear Incoming Calculus Student,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to one of the most challenging classes you will ever take in your high school career.  Calculus, while heralded by many to be the most informative of all math classes, proves to be literally impossible if you have not retained any information from your previous mathematics classes.  Though the class is rigorous with its constant notes and homework, I’m certain that you will be fine so long as you pay attention and complete your work.

Calculus is a valuable subject matter that you will most likely be required to take in college.  Because of this, it is recommended that you sign up to take the AP test if you feel you know the material.  Be forewarned that the AP test is one of the most difficult tests you will take in your life, and requires three straight hours of concentration.  Even if you do not take this test, it is good to be well-versed in the topics covered for your oncoming college courses.

Good luck in your endeavors and best wishes for your senior year.  Take solace in the fact that all seniors who take this class seriously will undoubtedly do well.  Remember that whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
