Course Description:

This course is designed for students who intend to pursue fields of study needing higher math after high school. Some of the topics that will be included in this course are: solving higher order equations and inequalities, analyzing functions and their behavior (trigonometric, logarithmic, and exponential), probability, data collection and analysis, sequences and series, and an introduction to limits. This course is designed for students who have demonstrated a strong foundation in Algebra 2 Honors and is the prerequisite for AP Calculus. All of the topics in Precalculus are covered in greater depth and at a more accelerated pace. More emphasis is placed upon the theory of equations, and topics are approached from graphic, numeric, and symbolic points of view. A graphing calculator is required.

Materials Needed:

Book
Notebook or 3 ring binder and loose-leaf paper
Pencils
Graphing Calculator Required (TI-83+, TI-84, TI-84+ recommended)

Grading:

Your semester grade in this class will be determined using the following percentages:

· 75% Tests and Quizzes

· 15% Daily Assignments

· 10% Semester Exam

Classroom Procedure:

Enter the classroom and find your assigned seat.
You are expected to be prepared for class at all times.

This includes your book, notes, calculator, etc.

Respect yourself, your classmates, and your teacher

Absences:

MINIMIZE YOUR ABSENCES! We move quickly in this course so missing class time puts you at a disadvantage. It is the responsibility of the student, not the teacher, to get any missed work or information.
Missed assignments need to be made up within a reasonable amount of time depending on the number of days missed. It is your responsibility to show me the missing work in order to receive credit. Keep track of your grade and assignments on the Parent Web Module.
An absence on the day before a test or quiz or missing a review session DOES NOT EXCUSE YOU from taking the make-up on the day that you return. If you have missed more than one day, you are responsible for making arrangements to make up the test/quiz as soon as possible.
Unexcused Absences on the day of a test will result in your make up test grade being lowered by 25%.

Extra Help:

I am usually available for extra help before school except on Thursdays and Fridays; however please let me know if you plan to come in so I can arrange to be in my room (212). Remember that it is easier to get help while learning the material, then to try and play catch up for a quiz or test.
