FIRST AID RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES
1. Course: One quarter of FIRST AID RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES
is required. The class is offered in conjunction with DRIVER EDUCATION
for 1 semester of credit in physical education. Quarter grades for both
classes will be averaged together for a semester grade. In order to receive
credit for a semester of physical education, the student must pass the
semester with a D or better.
2. Course Requirements: Students must have the following materials daily: pen or pencil, notebook or folder with loose leaf paper, textbook, and adult manikin face. The face mask can be purchased in class for $5.00. If a student doesn't have the needed material daily, the handbook policy may be followed. Phone calls home or home work detentions may be given if a student misses over 2 assignments. In order to receive first aid and CPR certification, the student must pass the written and skill tests according to RED CROSS standards.
3. Class Expectations - RESPECT EVERYBODY ALL THE TIME:
A. Teachers should treat
students with respect.
B. Students should
treat teachers with respect.
C. Students should
treat other students with respect.
D. Students and teachers
should respect the property of others. This includes not writing
on
school desks, talking when others are, taking others belongings without
asking, etc.
4. Take responsibility for yourself and your actions, or disciplinary action(s) may need to be taken (see # 10).
5. Tardies: You are expected to be in your seat in the classroom when the bell rings and be prepared to begin class. If you are not, you are tardy, and the steps as stated in the handbook will be followed. On the third tardy a 1/2 hour detention with the teacher will be issued. See the handbook for the following steps.
6. Absences: If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what happened while you were gone. You can get the assignments from your classmates or the instructor. If you know in advance you will be gone, please get your assignments before leaving whenever possible. For excused absences, barring special circumstances, you will have as many days to turn in missing assignments as you were absent. Please refer to handbook regarding vacations and unexcused absences.
7. Gum (when using manikins), any food, drinks, etc. are NOT allowed in class.
8. Coats are not to be brought to or worn in class.
9. Primping of any type (brushing hair, putting on make-up, lotion, etc.) is not acceptable during class at any time. First offense will have item taken. It will be returned when a parent calls. Second offense and every one after, item will be taken and not returned.
10. If a class/school rule is not being followed, discipline procedures
as stated below or in the handbook will apply. Class disciplinary procedures
include:
A. Verbal warning.
B. Moving the student in or removing the student from class.
C. Call to parents.
D. Detention.
E. Referral to the dean.
If a substitute teacher writes your name down for whatever reason,
a detention or referral will be issued to that student.
11. Grading: There will be a total of 1340 points for the semester course. Driver Education and First Aid are worth 670 points each. In First Aid you will earn points with homework, classwork, and skill and written tests. Your course grade will be the cumulative number of points you have earned in both classes throughout the semester. In First Aid... for every day an assignment is late, 1 point will be deducted from the student's grade.
