PSHS
E/BD Program
This plan has been designed to help the students in the E/BD program or IND classes achieve more success in their classes. The program uses natural and logical consequences, as well as incentives, in order to help students become more accountable for their own actions.

Incentive
Program:
Includes
students on the E/BD caseload that are in 3 or more IND classes and have no
suspendable offenses for the 6 week marking period.
~~Each student can earn up to 2 points for each
expectation (above) each period.
~~At the end of the 6 week marking period, students’
points will be totaled.
~~Any student earning 85% or higher of his total
possible points and is not referred for gang references, drug references,
sexual innuendo or aggression will earn a $15 gift certificate from Best Buy
~~This program starts over each marking period.
f.
Fast
Food Friday
Includes any student in any IND class who has no suspendable offenses for the week
~~Each student can earn up to
2 points for each expectation (above)
each period.
~~At the end of each week,
students’ points will be totaled.
~~Any student earning 85% of
higher of his total possible points and is not referred for gang references,
drug references, sexual innuendo or aggression will earn the opportunity to
bring money to purchase fast food on the last day of the week.
~~Staff will leave campus to
get the food after orders are placed.
g.
Positive
Tally Program
~~Students have the
opportunity to earn extra credit points each period for participating
appropriately.
~~When a student is
participating appropriately, a tally mark is written next to his or her
initials.
~~ These points get added up
at the end of the marking period.
~~ The
total points are divided by 5, and that number is added to the total academic
points the student earned that marking period.
~~ That
number is then divided by the possible academic points that student could have
earned in that marking period to figure the student’s grade.
h.
Point
sheets
~~ A copy
of both point sheets is included in this packet.
~~
Teachers are responsible for the point sheets; students do
not remove
them from the classrooms.
If
a teacher has a student who is in the E/BD behavior program, he or she is
responsible for tracking the behavior points on the point sheet.
At
the beginning of each marking period, the case manager for each student on the
E/BD program will send out the point sheets and directions.
Teachers
have the option to copy the point sheets weekly and turn them in, or wait until
the marking period ends to turn in the sheets.
There
are certain behaviors that are automatic zeroes for the class period. These are:
~~ Sleeping for a good chunk
of the period
~~ Being referred to the dean
~~ Leaving the room without
permission
~~ Unexcused or unexplained
absence
And/or
~~ Any other offense the
teacher deems appropriate
No
points will be recorded for students in certain situations. The lack of points will not be held against
the student. These situations include:
~~ ALC (in school suspension)
~~ out of school suspension
~~ excused sick days
~~ student at dean, social
worker, or guidance counselor
Some
rules that will be enforced by E/BD staff include:
~~students may eat or drink items
provided by E/BD staff only, unless he or she is on lunch detention
~~ students may sit in the desks or on
the floors, not on the counters or desks
~~ students may keep hats and coats on
their chairs or in their lockers. These
items will not be worn in the classroom.
~~ students will not wear hoods on
their heads
~~ students may keep their IPODS, MP3
players, phones, and other electronic devices in their coats, bags or
lockers. These will not be out during
class.
The following is the sequence of events that are recommended in case of disruptive behavior within the E/BD program:
~warning
~ positives to the students holding it together (tally mark)
~ point loss on Best Buy incentive point sheet
~ detention
~ social worker
~possible referral to dean
However, some behaviors warrant an immediate referral to the dean. These include:
~ drug references
~ gang references
~ sexual innuendo
~ threatening a student or teacher
~ aggressive words or actions
Additionally, some students have referral to dean on their BIP after a certain number of redirections.
Service Learning Program for
E/BD students
Service learning is best described as a teaching
strategy that enlists elements of best practices to engage students in
meaningful academic work. Through
service learning, students will establish a connection with the world around
them. Students will perceive that they
can become contributing members of our society. Through their own accomplishments through service learning,
students will increase their own feelings of self-worth. Students will meet with teachers, community
leaders and/or administrators to design projects. Higher level thinking skills are required as students plan and
problem solve. Projects are directly
connected to curriculum through learning standards. Finally, students participate in free writing reflective
activities at the conclusion of service learning projects to aid in the
understanding that they can make a difference in their world.
E/BD self-contained program
for significant absences
The purpose of this program is to reduce significant
absences to an acceptable level, keeping students in academic classes, thereby
improving grades and earning credits toward graduation.
·
Student
is escorted to all classes after the passing period has ended.
·
If
a student is failing a general ed class, it will be dropped and student will
have a study hall in the E/BD classroom.
If a student is doing well in a general ed class, he or she will remain
in that class.
·
Student
will be eating lunch in E/BD classroom.
Student must bring a lunch from home, unless he or she is on free lunch
at school, in which case, E/BD staff will go to the cafeteria and get the lunch
for the student.
·
Permission
to use the bathroom and water fountain will be granted as determined by staff.
Return of privileges is built into the program.
·
Passing
periods and lunch in the cafeteria are earned back in 15-day intervals.
·
Student
must have 0 unexcused or unexplained absences, and 0 suspension days for 15
full, straight days. (If there is an
unexcused absence or suspension day, the time frame begins again at day one.)
·
Once
15 days have passed successfully, student can choose to have the privilege of
regaining 2 passing periods or lunch.
·
Until
the entire day is earned back, every 15 days, student will have a choice. This will take at least 12 weeks.
If a student in the ED program attends school 85% of the time or more in a marking period, he or she will be invited to participate in a pizza party. This party is held by the social workers for the program and takes place at the beginning of the new marking period.
