From the Desk of Dan Goggins:

This is an extremely busy time here in Cougar land. We are in the process of finalizing class requests for next fall, starting a new sports season, preparing for state testing, and organizing the spring events for our senior class. In addition, we look forward to seeing the parents/guardians at Parent/Teacher Conferences on April 14th and 15th.

The Cougar Caravan was held on February 22nd and was a huge success. It allowed me the opportunity to meet with over 50 parents and community members to talk about what they liked and would like to see improved in our school. On March 15th and 22nd, I will meet with groups of students and staff to hear their views as well. All of these sessions will serve to frame improvement efforts and increase communications with all stakeholders.

With input and support from all, I continue to see daily improvements in the culture, climate, and achievement potential of Plainfield South High School. I thank you for playing your part in this.

Have a great spring!

Science Department:

" Several of our science teachers have been selected for Who's Who in American Teachers: Joe Vladika (Biology); Bernadette Gruca-Peal (Honors Physics and Investigating Matter and Energy); Jenna Mahlberg (General Chemistry); and Scott Albright (Honors Chemistry). They had been nominated by former students for this annual honor.

" Advanced Biology students recently traveled with Dave Nusbaumer and Tino Villaflor to Waubonsie Valley High School to attend a conference on Research in Genetics. Anatomy teachers, Phil Pakowski and Sandra McKinney, will be traveling to the Museum of Science and Industry on April 18th to view the exhibit Body Worlds, which includes 200 human specimens including transparent body slices. The juniors and seniors enrolled in physics will soon visit Great America Six Flags for the annual Physics Day.

PSHS PTSO:

" The Plainfield South PTSO Life Membership recipient is parent volunteer Mickey Britt and the Cougar Pride Award recipients are: Principal Dan Goggins, English teacher John Miller and Registrar Debbie Reuther.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT:

" Sixty-four students from the PSHS band program will be taking a trip to Orlando over spring break. The band will be departing PSHS on March 25th and returning on March 30th. Performances include a clinic at the nationally known Indiana University School of Music, a concert at Disney World Epcot Center, and a clinic with professional Disney musicians. Students will also enjoy time at Cocoa Beach, and three days at Disney World's Magic Kingdom, Epcot and MGM Studios before returning to Plainfield.

STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT:
" Making College Count, scheduled for Wednesday, March 23rd, is for seniors who have applied to colleges and other schools. It offers perspective to students on how to: set and achieve personal goals, avoid first year pitfalls, manage time and set priorities, achieve academic and career success, choose extracurricular activities to set themselves apart, utilize internships and develop experience that will impress future interviewers and graduate schools.
