READ ALL
DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY:
µ Know what
is expected of you from each portion of the test.
µ Be aware
of the time. PACE YOURSELF!
READ ACTIVELY:
µ Use your
finger or pencil as a guide while you read.
µ FOCUS!
µ Pay
attention to key or transition words that may affect meaning.
µ Read
quickly.
µ Read the
entire passage before you begin answering questions.
WHEN YOU BEGIN
ANSWERING QUESTIONS:
µ Answer
all EASY questions first.
µ Circle
the difficult items so that you don’t forget to go back.
µ Choose
the BEST answer.
µ Know the
different types of questions you will see:
o
Factual vs. Inferential (see Reading handout)
ELIMINATE AND
GUESS:
µ If you
can’t figure out the correct answer, eliminate choices that are incorrect.
µ Guess the
answer from the remaining choices.
µ NEVER
leave an item blank. (THERE IS NO
PENALTY FOR GUESSING!)
CONCENTRATE ON
FILLING IN YOUR ANSWER SHEET:
µ Be
careful not to bubble in the wrong circle.
µ Erase
carefully.
GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP! EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST!
WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES!
