Plainfield North to welcome NHL Hall of Famer Denis Savard

Longtime Chicago Blackhawks great and National Hockey League Hall of Fame inductee Denis Savard will appear at Plainfield North High School on Friday, October 21 from 6-8:30 p.m. Savard will be presented with the school’s first-ever “Honorary Tiger” award by Principal Dr. Peter Pasteris before speaking to the crowd about his long career as a hockey player and coach.

A seven-time NHL all-star, Savard is currently in his seventh year as an assistant coach with the Blackhawks. He is one of only five players in franchise history to have his number retired, and was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 2000. He won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Montreal Canadiens in 1993.

The highlight of the event, which is open to the public, will be Savard's one-hour talk. He will discuss his journey as an athlete, the lessons he has learned on and off the ice, and the dedication and commitment it takes to excel as an athlete.

Admission for the event is $15 per person, and all proceeds will go to the Plainfield North volleyball program. Each person will receive an autographed Denis Savard trading card and a raffle ticket for donated items and theme baskets put together by Plainfield North student-athletes, as well as admission to Savard’s speech. Additional raffle tickets will be available for $1 each, or six for $5.

Plainfield North is one of three high schools in Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202, and is located at 12005 S. 248th Street in Plainfield.

For more information, contact Plainfield North volleyball coach Kerri McCastland at (815) 230-4500, ext. 2644.
