Expectations
At Drauden Point we are happy to work as a
team to encourage and teach all of the important aspects of physical
education.
Grading
Students are graded on a variety of items that can be broken down in to
three main categories: participation and effort, skill
application and written assignments/tests.
The breakdown of percentages used to determine a students’ quarter
grade is as follows:
50% Participation and Effort
25% Skill Application
25% Written Assignment/Tests
Participation and
Effort
Up to 10 points may be earned daily for each student. Students may lose
participation and effort points for improperly completing daily
warm-ups, wearing jewelry to class, not having proper shoes, and/or
improper behavior during class activities. Students out of physical
education will earn their participation points for that day by
completing a written assignment realted to physical education.
Skill Application
Time is spent each unit to teach and develop the skills needed to
successfully be able to participate in a given sport or fitness
activity. These skills are evaluated as the students apply them to the
activities and games during the course of the unit.
Written
Assignments/Tests
Tests are generally given during each unit, as well as tests and
written assignments given during health.
Dress/Rentals
All students need to dress for class each day. Refusal to dress will
not be tolerated and will be addressed with a daily grade reduction and
teachers will follow a consistent disciplinary policy.
This policy is set on a semester basis, and includes the
following procedures:
1st offense
- loss of points and reminder of the policy
2nd offense - loss of points
and reminder of the policy
3rd offense - loss of points,
parent contact, detention
4th offense - loss of points,
detention
5th and future offenses - loss
of points and referral
Behavior Management
Students are expected to follow all school rules as listed in their
handbook; as well as the general rules specific to physical education.
Since these rules promote safety and allow for a conducive learning
environment for all students, consequences will occur when
inappropriate actions are demonstrated. The severity of the
situation will dictate what consequence would be appropriate.
Consequences for being late to class will
follow the standard tardy policy for our building.
Health Curriculum
All students
are involved in six weeks of health education during their physical
education class each year. Grades for health are incorporated in to
their physical education grade during the quarter for which these units
are taught. The units covered at each grade level are
listed below.

Students will participate in two separate
three week units throughout the year. During this time, the units
covered will be taught by their teacher using a variety of teaching
strategies. This may include group discussion, written assignments and
tests. The text book, Teen Health will be used, as well as other
supplementary materials.
If you have any further questions or ever
need to communicate with your child’s teacher, please feel free to
contact us through email or voice mail.
