READ 180

READ 180 is a powerful program developed to raise literacy skills through individualized learning opportunities.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture.
Just get people to stop reading them.
~ Ray Bradbury ~

Nightly Reading
Nothing is gained without practice.  Each student should be reading for at least 20 minutes everyday. Log sheets will be sent home every Monday and collected on the following Monday.  I ask that a parent or gaurdian sign each week's log.

Homework
Written homework may not be assigned every night.  It is important that when homework is assigned that it is returned in a timely manner.  The goal of the following plan is to ensure that each student completes all of the assigned work.  The first time an assignment is not on time the student will recieve a verbal warning.  The second late assignment will earn the student a Lunch Bunch (time to complete the assignment while eating lunch).  The third missing assignment will be a lunch bunch and a call home to set up a plan for getting work in on time.  The forth missed assignment will be an after school detention and another call home.  The fifth missed assignment will be an Academic Saturday School.  If missed assignments continue to occur there will be a meeting called with the case manager, parents and dean to remedy the situation.

Missed Classes
In the event that a student misses a class due to illness or other engagements in the school the missing work will be made up.  The student will have the same number of days they missed to make up any outstanding assignments.

Behavior Management
All classrooms should be safe, orderly places condusive to learning.  To this end I follow a system of individual and group rewards intended to help students develop self control and to take responsibility for their choices.

Individuals are rewarded tickets that can be entered in a weekly drawing for prizes upon meeting responsibilities.  Each student is expected to:
~Come to class on time
~Be prepared with necessary materials
~Turn in any homework
~Get started immediately on bellwork
~Take class time seriously

The tickets the class earns as a whole are tallied each week.  When the class reaches their goal we will plan a celebration to take place during class time.

In the event that a student chooses to disregard the rules and expectations of the class the following consequences will be enforced:
-Student/Teacher Conference
-Phone Call Home
-Student/Parent/Teacher Conference
-Detention
-Lunch Detention
-Office Detention
-Saturday School
These consequences are not listed in any particular order and will be utilized as deemed appropriate to the offense.

The classroom rewards and consequences are in conjunction with all of the policies and procedures listed in the Drauden Point handbook.

Supplies
Each student is asked to bring the following items from their supply list to READ 180.
