PTO Committees |
Without your support, we could not continue these activities. Listed below are the different committees that are chaired by volunteer parents:
|
| Assemblies |
This person is responsible for our Student Assemblies for the current year.
|
| Book Fair |
The book fair is brought into the school, sponsored by Scholastic Books, and is an organized selling event for our children; selling times are offered during a specific week at school and one night for families. Students, staff, and families are given the opportunity to buy books, thus helping our school. A portion of the profits are given back to our school and used to purchase media/technical equipment. Our volunteers for this event help the children in their selections, cashing them out and keeping the shelves stocked each day.
|
| Buttons |
This person is responsible for making the homecoming, birthday, and bee award buttons.
|
| Campbell Soup Labels |
We've all seen the notes sent home asking us to save our labels from our Campbell products. Once these labels are brought in, one of our volunteers takes the time to clip & count them, then send them into the Campbell Company. These labels then receive a point value and in turn, we again receive technical equipment.
| CAPE Representative |
Coordination of Administration and Parent Groups for Educational Efficiency. Once a month, CAPE representatives from each school meet. These meetings are held so that all the schools can discuss and share new ideas. Individuals from the district also attend and discuss district wide events and ideas as well. The representative from each school then reports back to their PTO/PTA organization.
|
| Cub Food Receipts |
Send your receipts from Cub Food (Rt. 59 & Caton Farm Road) with your child to school to be dropped off in the media center. This person will be responsible for tallying the sales for each month and turning in the receipts for cash for the school. We earn a percentage of the total receipt value.
|
| ETCEP Recycle Program |
This was a new committee for the 2000-2001 school year. An organization called ETCEP, has offered schools the opportunity to earn points for recycling their used computer printer cartridges. With these accumulated points, the school can then purchase technical equipment. This committee will be responsible for returning the cartridges, keepig track of the points and finding local businesses to adopt our school and help us earn extra points. We collect empty cartridges in the Learning Center.
|
| Fun Fair |
This is another large event that benefits the school, but gives the students and their families the chance to have a day of great fun. The name says it all - it's a fair, filled with fun! This event takes a large number of volunteers. Prizes, candies, and supplies have to be purchased and inventoried prior to the event. The games and events are set up the night before and volunteers have to be organized for each game for the entire day.
|
| General Mills Box Tops |
This committee is much like the Campbell labels. Parents save and send in their box tops from their General Mills food products. Again these have to be clipped, counted and sent in to General Mills. General Mills, in return, sends us a check to use as needed.

| Health and Safety |
During the school year, vision and hearing tests are given to the students. This committee makes sure that volunteers are on hand to make sure the testing run smoothly and to assist the teachers with the students.
|
| Holiday Bake Sale |
This person would be responsible to organize the Holiday Bake Sale operated at the same time as the Holiday Music Program. He/She would need to call the volunteers who agree to bake for the sale, as well as call volunteers to assist at the sale.
|
| Holiday Gift Shop |
During the Christmas holiday, this workshop is offered to the students in order to lend a hand in their Christmas shopping for family and friends. An assortment of items, ranging from $.50 and up are brought in and made available for sale to the students. This offers our children the chance to do their very own picking and buying of gifts. The committee group for this event has to select the items, make an inventory, price the items out, set up, assist the students, cash them out and make sure the stock is replenished daily.
|
| Homecoming |
This is another big, but important event. Homecoming has always been a very special and committed event in Plainfield. Each school presents a float to represent their school in the town's homecoming parade. The homecoming committee is responsible for planning and preparing the float. An assortment of volunteers is always welcome on this project - for their help and ideas!
|
| Hospitality |
The representatives of this committee have several events to participate in. During the year, the hospitality committee is present to supply beverages and cookies to the individuals attending certain events. They also supply the food items during the Fun Fair.

| Hot Lunch |
Each month the PTO Hot Lunch committee organizes a special hot lunch for the students. This provides a change to the everyday lunch. The special meals are brought in from local fast food restaurant (i.e. McDonald's, Papa Johns etc.) The committee starts at the beginning of the day, by preparing sack lunches for each student. Each sack is filled with a chip and treat and organized for each lunch period. Preparation of the lunch selection, lunch count, money count, and chip/snack purchases all come before that day. The profits from each month's PTO lunch enable PTO to provide a Free PTO hot lunch for the month of May.
|
| Landscaping |
This committee doesn't have a specific guideline. The committee offers ideas and labor to the school grounds to help enhance and maintain the beauty. This is a great committee for Dads and families, as well as a great way to earn community service hours for your kids.
|
| Market Day |
Market Day is an organization that offers prepackaged foods at fair pricing. The foods are pre-ordered and then delivered to the school once a month. This committee is responsible for counting the orders and turning them in, as well as organizing the volunteers for setup and distribution.

Pictures are taken at school on the digital camera, as well as 35mm pictures are taken for special events. These pictures are then turned into the Enterprise to be published in their Kid's Section. This committee is responsible for submitting these pictures and including the information needed for each picture.
|
| Room Representative |
This committee is responsible for making up classroom envelopes for each classroom party (three parties per year.) The envelopes include the list of class volunteers for each party, party ideas for games, suggestions and the monetary funds available for each party. These envelopes are then distributed to one individual per classroom.
|
| Roller Skating |
Each month the PTO hosts a roller skating event at Skate West in Crest Hill. This committee is responsible for the dates, and collection of the funds from each monthly event.
|
| School Services (Media) |
Every day each week, we have ladies who volunteer a couple of hours of their time to come and work in the media center. These volunteers help the students in selecting books, checking them out and various other duties. This committee is responsible for making sure each time slot has a volunteer to help. Morning shift is 9:00a.m. to 11:30a.m. and the afternoon shift is 1:00p.m. to 3:40p.m. We would like to have 20 volunteers total, so that we could have two moms per time slot.

| School Supplies |
These supply kits are available at the end of each school year, and they can be ordered through Grand Prairie for delivery at the beginning of the next school year. These kits are convenient because everything is included for your school year - no chasing after dry erase markers! This person is responsible for ordering all school supplies and for the delivery of these items the Friday before school starts. They will also need to find volunteers to help distribute these supplies.
|
| Special Events |
There are three major events held each school year: Back to School Social, Bingo (Fall & Spring) and Teacher's Appreciation Dinner. This committee has the large task of coordinating these events, preparations, volunteers, etc.
|
| Tyson Chicken Labels |
This was a new committee for the 2003-2004 school year. Grand Prairie PTO has another easy way for our school to earn money! Tyson Food, Inc. has a program called Tyson Project A+. On select Tyson frozen food items and on new refrigerated lunchmeat and fully cooked bacon items, you will see the Project A+ logo. Tyson gives us a wonderful $0.24 per label! So start saving labels and drop them into the Tyson collection box in our learning center. Don't forget to ask grandparents, neighbors, etc. to save labels for you also. This person is responsible for clipping, counting and sending them into Tyson. Tyson, in return, sends us a check to use as needed.
|
| Yearbook |
This committee creates our annual yearbook. This committee has the tasks of everything from picking out a yearbook cover to the layout of the final pages of classrooms and special activity pages. They also handle the process of yearbook orders and the collection of the money.
There are several other items that the PTO assists in, but are not part of a particular committee. Examples of these are:
- Helping students locate their classrooms on the first few days of school
- Riding the kindergarten buses the first two days in order to help the bus drivers locate the homes
- Assisting teachers on picture day, picture retake day, hearing/vision screening
- Helping the PSHS PTSO sell homecoming items during spirit week at Homecoming time
- Organizing and distributing the pre-purchased school supplies
Please come out and give a new try to PTO this year. We look forward to greeting old members and meeting new! |
