Physical Education Rules and Policies
Rules and Regulations
- All locks must be purchased through the main office. (school issued only)
- No food, gum, candy or drinks allowed in the gym or locker rooms.
- Vandalism is NOT tolerated. All equipment will be used respectfully. Misuse of equipment will result in a detention and the student will assume the cost of any broken equipment.
- Respect the rights of all individuals in class. It is an expectation that all students will treat each other’s differences with respect and dignity. It is also expected that students and teachers will treat each other with dignity and respect.
Locker room Policies & Procedures
- When entering the locker room : Open lock, change into P.E. uniform, remove all jewelry, place clothes, other shoes and books into a large locker, LOCK locker!
- At the end of class, change back into school clothes, put uniform back into your small locker. LOCK LOCKER !!
- It is recommended that each student keep a roll on deodorant in their P.E. locker. Aerosol spray containers as well as glass containers are NOT allowed.
- Students have 5 minutes from the time the bell rings to change and go out to the gym and sit in their attendance line. If the student is not in their attendance line by that time, they will be given a tardy. 3 tardies results in a detention.
- Have respect for other students as well as your surroundings while in the locker room. Be responsible and accountable. Throw out trash you see on floor !
- If you find something that does not belong to you (such as a P.E uniform, shoes, jewelry, books, etc.) let a P.E. Teacher know or place the item in the designated Lost and Found area in your locker room. We are NOT responsible for lost jewelry.
Dress Policy
All students are expected to dress in their P.E. uniform EVERY day.
First Offense : Loss of daily points.
Second Offense : Loss of daily points and phone call home.
Third Offense : Loss of daily points and a detention.
Fourth Offense : Loss of daily points and a referral to office.
Any subsequent offense is an automatic referral to office.
Students who do not dress (and do not have a medical condition or parent note), are still
expected to participate in the daily class activities, and in doing so, may earn back ½ of their daily points.
Medicals & Parent Notes
Any student out of P.E for a length of time (2 wks or more), due to a medical condition with a doctor’s note, may be assigned to a study hall for that time period.
The student will be required to complete a Physical Education written project for the duration of their time out of class in order to earn their P.E. grade for that time period.
If a child comes to class with a note from home excusing them from P.E. for the day, they will be given a pass and sent to the nurse’s office for evaluation. A different parent note will need to be written each day, for up to a total of 3 days.
Grading
Each student begins every day with 10 points based on the following:
- Effort
- Cooperation / Teamwork
- Class Participation
- Willingness to try
- Respect for others
Students can lose daily points for misbehaving in class (not following the rules), and not wearing their P.E. uniform.
Each student’s grade will consist of the following :
- 60% Assessments (Fitness testing, written tests, motor skills, i.e. demonstrating proper form)
- 30% Participation (uniform, sportsmanship, effort, citizenship)
- 10% Homework
