Educational Philosophy
The teachers at Lakewood Falls Elementary School are dedicated to the education of all students in our school. We believe that students learn best when they are active participants in their education. Therefore, the teachers establish a classroom atmosphere that fosters critical thinking, problem solving, leadership and choice. Activities are designed that encourage students to move toward independence in their learning.
Literacy development is highly valued in every classroom. Reading and writing are integrated into all content areas. Classrooms have a wide range of materials available to students in order to enhance their literacy development. Students are taught a variety of reading strategies for reading both fiction and non-fiction text. Reading and writing for a variety of purposes and for a variety of audiences is introduced in the earliest of grades.
The mathematics program at Lakewood Falls Elementary School is designed to provide problem-solving experiences in real life contexts while allowing for diversity and various learning styles. Practice is provided through meaningful games and activities. As with reading and writing, strong connections are made between mathematics and other content area subjects such as science and social studies. |
