Just think of all the paper you and your family throw away each day. By simply adding an additional garbage can to your kitchen for paper trash, you can help us in our challenge, and help save a little piece of our earth.
Did you know that, as a nation, we currently produce about 180 million tons of municipal solid waste a year? This quantity of solid waste is enough to fill a convoy of garbage trucks stretching halfway to the moon! By placing the paper trash in a separate container, and then sending that paper to our school, you can cut down on an entire trash can of garbage per week.
Some of us have tried this for the last couple of weeks, with great result and little difficulty. Simply bring all the junk mail, newspaper, magazines, and phone books you would normally toss in the garbage can to our school. Cardboard is not accepted in this container; however, it is a recyclable material for the containers that are picked up at your home.
Please remember to shred the items that have personal information on it, this is just a good practice no matter where you throw your junk mail. Whenever you have enough paper trash to bring to our school, just load it in you trunk and empty your plastic bags of recyclable material into our green and yellow bins. Don’t forget to re-use your plastic bags to collect more paper items for the next drop off.
This year we are once again, recycling aluminum cans, pop tabs for Kidney Dialysis, ink jets and toner cartridges, and this year we are also collecting old cell phones. If your cell phone is still working, but you bought a new one or switched companies, these cell phones will be donated to a local women’s shelter or police station for donation. If the cell phone is broken just have your child bring it in to Mrs. Wengelewski. All the above items can be brought in through out the year. I don’t bring them to the charities until the end of the school year. We appreciate all your efforts. |
