What is the role of natural selection in evolution? [Chapter 22]
1. Natural selection was the mechanism Charles Darwin proposed
for evolution. Despite almost 150 years of assaults on this idea no one has yet
disproved it, in fact it has been repeatedly supported by research. Thus it is
a theory not a hypothesis.
2.
Darwin’s theory is based upon five observations and 3
inferences (see page 435). Be sure you know these.
3.
Exactly what is natural selection selecting?
4.
What is the unit of natural selection?
5.
What is the smallest unit that can evolve?
6.
How can natural selection be measured?
7.
Give Specific Examples of Natural Selection that are well
documented.
