This team will be great someday.  We had a very good showing at our first-ever varsity conference meet.

We have improved where we were weak ... the field events.
  •      Keith Collins started the day off for us by throwing 47-9 in the shot ... previous best 44-2.  Hard work and good coaching (Coach Keith Laughary) made a difference.
  •      Lorenzo Diaz high jumped 6-1 and almost made 6-3 (state qualifying is 6-3).
  •      Sophomore John Kasper shocked the world by pole-vaulting 9-3 and becoming the first-ever Plainfield North athlete over 9-0 in the vault.  Congrats to John and Coach Wes Wheeler.
  •      Antonio Sciddurlo long jumped a school record 19-5.

Jake Arnold has not had a good workout for nine days.  However, I've never seen a sprinter work harder than Jake in December, January, and February.  The typical sprinter is hard to coach and hard to motivate ... not Jake.  His level of physical fitness and his extreme competitive nature allowed him to have a great meet.  The numbers are pretty amazing.  I sometimes get "lost in the moment", but I believe that Jacob Arnold is a potential world-class track & field athlete.
  •      100 Prelims 10.7*
  •      200 Prelims 22.3
  •      4x1 anchor leg 9.4 split
  •      100 10.7*
  •      400 48.2*
  •      200 21.4*

Our distance guys were flat after having great performances last Friday at Lockport.  We still managed some special performances.

  •      Freshman Austin Stone ... 5:10* and 11:06*
  •      Sophomore Josh Le ... 2:13 in 4x8 ... a 10-second PR
  •      Sophomore Courtney Atkinson 2:14* and 2:17* in the 4x8 and 800
  •      Sophomore Andrew Karas was dissappointed with his times (4:39 and 9:55) but still managed 2nd and 1st ... not bad.

Freshman Kevin Capodice ... with very almost no distance training (starting safety in football, swim team in winter) ... continues to amaze ... 2:01.9 in the 800 and 53.9 lead-off in the 4x4.

  Our sprint relays looked great.

  •      4x1 ran 42.9 (if we repeat this performance next Friday ... we take this team to state ... http://www.ihsa.org/activity/trb/2006-07/2qstand.htm (state qualifying standards)
  •      4x2 ran 1:32.3 without Jake ... George Frimpong ran a great anchor leg.
  •      4x4 ran 3:34.3 without Jake ... Capodice, Ware, Diaz, and Frimpong all ran PRs

Sophomore Troy Holler may have broken his arm diving to attempt an impossible handoff in the FS 4x1.  He broke the same arm running the hurdles in 7th AND in 8th grade track.  To his credit, he taped it up, started from a standing position (couldn't get into blocks), and still placed 3rd and 2nd in the two hurdle events (17.5, 45.2*).  We hope the arm is not broken.

6-4 sophomore Adam Eichelberger is beginning to realize his potential.  Adam ran 53.5 to win the FS 400 and then came back with a solid 54.4 in the 4x4.  He also high jumped for the first time (5-4).

In addition to Adam, Sophomore Brett Reichert and Freshman Keivon Jackson both ran solid PRs in the FS 4x4 (56.5 and 56.0).

Freshman Brett Shelton, after a disappointing performance in the 300 INT, triple jumped a 3-foot PR of 36-7.

Next meet ... Tuesday at Naperville Central (5:00 PM) ... Fresh-Soph A-B-C meet ... almost all F/S athletes will attend.

Sectional at Plainfield Central next Friday night.

  Go Tigers.
