Not a single PR ... unacceptable. We might not be powerful in the field events but ... Field Event Scores: Central 52 Minooka 34 Romeoville 31 North 13 Andrew Karas was sick and we scratched him from all but the 1600. I told him to run a good first lap and drop out if he could not maintain. He won by 20 meters. Running Event Scores: Central 68 North 66 Romeoville 66 Minooka 54 Jake Arnold had a great night. His 49.0 was impressive ... especially since my watch had him at 48.4 and Coach Fahey had him at 48.6. 10.7 in the 100 wasn't bad either. Jake was interviewed by three newspapers after his win in the 400. We successfully completed the 4x1 with very conservative exchanges. We bettered the school record from 45.7 to 43.5. There is no doubt that we can run in the 42s. Freshman Kevin Capodice ran a fantastic 800 ... 2:03.5. Our 4x2 (without Jake) ran 1:33.8 and placed 2nd. We did a great job in the 300 INT. Antonio Sciddurlo had a 2-second PR (43.2) and Troy Holler had a 1-second PR (45.7). Fabian Quiroz ran poorly in the 3200 but redeemed himself in the 1600 (4:42). Our 4x8 team (Van, Hernandez, Stone, and Ziadat) did not place but all had PRs. Luke Berndl, a sophomore distance runner weighing about 100 pounds, approached me Wednesday with a copy of my most recent email. He pointed to the email and said ... What's up with this stuff about how "Plainfield North will someday be know for their sprinters"? I told him that I was a master motivator (tongue-in-cheek). Well ... it must have worked ... Luke was highly motivated to improve his previous times of 5:31 and 11:34. Luke bettered both PRs in the same race! He was clocked at 5:25 in the first mile and finished at 11:09 ... shattering his 3200-PR by 25 seconds. Congrats Luke! See all PRs at http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pbwNqCUlMKOM6ckHtEb7BZQ The "Championship Season" is getting near. Conference at PFN on Thursday, May 10. Sectional at Central May 18. State at EIU May 25-26. We run against Central and South Tuesday at South. We will see the same cast of characters next Friday at Lockport. Lockport's meet will be an A-B-C format. All races with the exception of the relays will feature the best runner from each team running in the A-Heat, the second best in the B-Heat, and third best in the C-Heat. Points & awards will be given to the placers in all three heats. Field events will also be A-B-C. Relays will feature just one team from each school. Our outdoor record now stands at 21-9 (we've beaten 21 teams, lost to 9). Our Fresh-Soph record is 5-0. Website (now featuring Holler's Hall of Fame) ... http://www.psd202.org/pnhs/Athletics/Boys_Track/TRACK_HOME_PAGE.html Four guys you'll find on the Hall of Fame ... Good luck to my former state champion long jumper (23-4), member of 4x1 and 4x2 state champions (42.3 and 1:27.9), and 48.8 400 runner ... Braden Jones (SIU). Jones signed Sunday with the Minnesota Vikings. He has logged 40 times of 4.53 and 4.58 at pro days at SIU and Northwestern (also a 37" vertical). I once timed him at 4.29 on two consecutive 40s (he was wearing track spikes). At 6-3, 260 pounds, he will make a great tight end. Also, congrats to Todd Campbell, who graduated early from Franklin H.S. (TN). Todd was the third fastest wide reciever at the University of Tennessee this spring (top three wide receiver times: 4.46, 4.48, 4.49). Also, congrats to John Hewitt (Franklin) who ran 53.7 recently in the 400 INT for UT. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/tenn/sports/m-track/auto_pdf/07outdoortop.pdf Also, congrats to Thomas Sensing (Franklin) throwing great at Wake Forest. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/wake/sports/m-track/auto_pdf/cumulative-stats.pdf |
