  Wow.

  ANDREW KARAS ...
We ran Andrew in the 1600 only ... hoping for a big PR, maybe 4:35 ... instead Andrew ran splits of 65-68-70-66 to run 4:29.86.  This is a PR by 13 seconds.  Andrew needed to run 4:31 to become the first-ever state indoor qualifier for PNHS.  This race would rank in my top-10 most exciting events my 26 years of coaching.  Andrew is only a sophomore ...

  JACOB ARNOLD ...
The next race after the frenzy caused by Andrew Karas ... the 200 ... (enthusiasm and excellence are contagious).  Jacob, tired after three races ran an inspired 22.61 and became the second-ever state indoor qualifier for PNHS.  Jacob is only a sophomore ...

Are you getting the idea that we had a good meet?

  KEVIN CAPODICE ...
Our freshman phenom blazed a school record 2:06.93 and later ran a solid PR in the 4x4 of 56.5.

Our 4x2 team of Jake, Jinks, Dominque Ware, and Chester Bryant nearly qualified for State with a 1:34.79.  The qualifying standard is 1:34.74 ... we missed by only .05 seconds!  When a sprint relay team without seniors competes successfully with the Thornwoods, Evanstons, Thorntons, etc ... the future looks bright.

  LORENZO DIAZ DeLEON ...
Standing only 5-foot 5-inches tall, Lorenzo high jumped 5-10, breaking the PNHS indoor high jump record.  This was the ONLY PNHS INDOOR RECORD LEFT STANDING ... we broke every PNHS indoor record this season.  Lorenzo also ran a great 400, 56.49 (a 3-second PR).

We had two finalists (Jake and Jinks) in the 55.

  FABIAN QUIROZ ...
Running in the shadows of Andrew Karas, let's not forget the 8-second PR of Fabian in the 1600 (4:47).

  GEORGE FRIMPONG ...
The 4x4 will become the signiture event of PNHS ... George Frimpong embodied the spirit that will someday make us great.  George had waited all day to run ONE event ... the 4x4.  The bus had left at 3:00 and George was still waiting to run his ONE race at 9:00 PM.  George (pumped with the excitement of the previous two races ... 1600 and 200) went out at a fast pace (24.1 at the 200 mark), but was tripped by a runner following him too closely.  George went down hard and looked to be injured.  As fate would have it, the entire team was standing right where he was tripped.  With encouragement, George got up and chased with tremendous emotion.  Most guys would have quit.  George ran a 59.1 with a fall that probably cost him 5 seconds.  Most important, he never gave up.  Stay tuned.
