We took two buses (70 athletes) to Lockport.  It was a long day due to team pictures at 6:45 AM.

Though we did not win an event, we were strong in several.

Sophomore Jacob Arnold, after not competing last week, came back strong with two photo-finishes in the 55 meters and 200 meters.  His times (6.33 and 23.20) were outstanding.

Sophomore Andrew Karas placed second in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600 with times of 10:08 and 4:45.

Jinks Arnold ran 6.6 and 24.2 in another strong effort.  Jinks has not participated in track for the last two seasons.

5’5 freshman, Erran Pagan, looked great in the 55 and 200 running 6.8 and 25.4.

I’m very impressed with Coach Kevin Fahey’s distance group.  We could very easily see Karas, Quiroz, Capodice, Stone, Sawyer, and Berndl at sub-5:00 in the mile this year.  SIX guys under 5:00 in the mile and all of them underclassmen!

Our hurdlers, under Coach Wes Wheeler, all improved this week.  Troy Holler ran the high hurdles for the first time ever with an impressive 4th place F/S finish.

I expect our 4x1 and 4x2 teams to be terrific this year.  Our 1:37.7 (4x200) was much better than the time would indicate.  We had two poor handoffs and the curves at Lockport are very sharp (180 meter track with long straight-aways).

Our rival, Plainfield Central looked great.  Oddly enough, their strengths are in areas where we are weak.  Their vaulters went 14’9, 14’6, and 11’0.  They have two great horizontal jumpers (LJ 22’4 & 20’10 … TJ 44’6 & 43’7).  Their high jumper easily won the high jump (6’2 on a very slick surface).  In addition, they had the meet’s best hurdler (7.52).  Our worst events are their best.

We have a F/S indoor meet at Oswego Wednesday.  As far as I know, everyone goes.

Next Saturday we have an indoor meet at Lewis University.  We are limited to two entries per event.
