Out of 46 chances, the best our team could manage was a couple of 3rd places. Jake Arnold was present but I decided to scratch him from all four events. Jake has had a problem with ITB (sore tendon on outside of knee) ... http://www.time-to-run.com/injuries/thebig5/itb.htm The last time this problem surfaced was after our first indoor meet at SIU. Jake was fine after nine days of rest. With this most recent problem occurring last Tuesday (47.8 split in 4x4) he will have exactly nine days to get ready for conference (this Thursday). This soreness typically happens to distance runners running on uneven roads but it can also result from running on a curve. Jinks Arnold ran only one race (4x1) and soreness in his patellar tendon ... a nuisance since football. I scratched Jinks from all other races. Adam Eichelberger went home sick at lunch. George Frimpong gave blood on Thursday. Enough of the negative stuff ... Our field event people are back on the right track with six PRs. Lorenzo Diaz looked great jumping 6-0 (high jump) and freshman Max Korzec jumped 5-6. Keith Collins bettered his school record in the discus (127) and freshman Kyle Possedi threw his best (112). John Kasper continued his improvement in the vault (7-9) and Antonio Sciddurlo finally broke the 19-foot mark in the LJ. This was another great day for our distance guys ... Fabian Quiroz (Jr)
... double PR in the 1600 and 3200 (4:42* and 10:08*).
Andrew Karas (So) ... still not 100% ran well in the 800 and 1600 (2:04* and 4:37) Justin Van (So) ... finally broke the five-minute barrier in 1600 (4:53*) Austin Stone (Fr) ... an impressive PR in 3200 (11:12*) Lucas Berndl (So) ... placed 6th in 3200 but did not better last weeks 3200 time (11:09) Danield Sawyer (Jr) ... PR in 800 (2:09*) Saif Ziadat (So) ... PR in 4x8 (2:14*) Courtney Atkinson (So)
... PR in 4x8 (2:15*)
Freshman Brent Shelton was outstanding in the 300 INT blazing a 45.8. This is Brent's first year of hurdling. Updated PRs ... http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pbwNqCUlMKOM6ckHtEb7BZQ Our 4x1 team ran 44.1 without Jake ... Jake Arnold would have been, in my opinion, the best athlete in the meet. He would have won the 100, 200, 400, and placed us in competition to win the 4x1. Jinks Arnold would have placed top-3 in the B-heats of the 100 and 200. The conference meet is absolute pinnacle for a track & field team. The Southwest Prairie Conference Championships will be held at Plainfield North High School Thursday starting at 3:00. Announcing the meet will be former Kaneland Track & Field Coach Ralph Drendel. +++ Thanks to Lanphier Coach Mike Garcia for sending me results from the best track meet in Illinois ... the Collinsville Invitational. This meet features three teams that may place 1-2-3 in the state meet later this month. In addition, the best team in Class A (Herrin) attended as well. How about high jumping 7-0 and getting second? How about 41.7 getting beat in the 4x1? My team last year (Franklin, TN) placed FOURTTH in this meet without my best jumper and 2nd best sprinter. Team Scores CAHOKIA-140 LANPHIER-85 EAST ST.
