Hosler 32-3* +++ This was a great meet for us ... fantastic competition from great track programs ... hard to believe these athletes were all freshmen and sophomores. The weather was relentless ... four consecutive hours of rain (and cold). Our guys showed up to every event ... no complaints. We ran with heavy shoes and, at times, very little vision. The rain in the eyes of runners caused many involuntary lane changes. Hard times make us stronger. Our 4x1 team of Pagan, Ware, Holler, and Arnold ran 44.5 with beautiful handoffs ... the best handoffs of the year. This group would have gone low-43s in good weather. Our 4x4 team of Eichelberger, Ware, Capodice, and Arnold went 3:32 at the end of the meet. If the weather was perfect and the mystical forces of Track & Field were in our favor, this team could run state qualifying (3:24). Kevin Capodice (800) and Jacob Arnold (100) were our only two individual winners. We now have FOUR guys under 5:00 in the mile (Karas 4:29, Quiroz 4:42, Van 4:53, and Stone 4:54). What a race by freshman Austin Stone. In addition, Courtney Atkinson ran 5:05 in the nasty conditions. Sophomore Andrew Karas stayed home (and dry) running one last critical workout before Sectional. Andrew must run 4:24 to qualify for state. Saif Ziadat and freshmen Mike Meredith both ran solid PRs in the 800 (2:12 and 2:21). Joe Feliciano continues to show great promise as a sprinter running 24.6 in the rain. Most people were running one full second slower in the 200. Joe is one of our top 10 sprinters. Mike Zuno (another top-10 guy) looked great in practice Monday and turned in the top split in the 4x2 (23.7). Bryce Corrigan (freshman QB) ... won his heat of the 400 with a PR. Freshman Brent Shelton continues to impress running 46.5 and winning his 300 INT heat. Brent also had a 0.9 second PR in the 110HH. Freshman Damir Karahodizich ran a 13-second PR in the 3200 and wants to take one more shot at the 12:00 mark next Monday. Damir would join EIGHT teammates who are in the Sub-12:00 Club. With the weather destroying most competitors in the Shot Put, Freshman Andrew Scarmardo threw a PR 33-7. Sectional Friday ... 4:30. Kaneland Freshman Invitational Monday (11 schools). Open entries ... everyone goes. Go Tigers.
