By the time the meet started, it seemed like January. With the exception of Jake Arnold and Andrew Karas who both ran at Top Times, our team had gone 16 days without a track meet. We looked rusty, cold, and emotionally flat. We got outscored 54-12 in the varsity field events and our relays were somewhat embarrassing. But let's focus on the good things ... We beat two AA schools at two levels ... and we don't have seniors. When we left the meet, we thought that we had lost at the varsity level ... but the score was later corrected. They don't get the score wrong in football, basketball, and baseball ... only in track. Jake Arnold got beat by Raymon Parker of Romeoville in the 100 and 200 ... Parker is one of the fastest guys in the state (6.45 FAT in 55). However, Jake ran 51.8 in the open 400 ... definitely our best individual performance ... and a new school record. Justin Van ran 2:19 and 5:15 ... showing great improvement. How about Andrew Karas running the 3200, 800, 1600, and 4x4 (winning the 3200, 800, AND 1600)? How about Fabian Quiroz running the 3200, 1600, and 4x4? We have the toughest group of distance runners I've ever coached. Keith Collins placed 2nd in both the shot (43-2) and discus (123-7) ... new school discus record. Our freshmen and sophomore sprinters (running frozen under the lights at the end of the meet) looked good ... 22.6 Jake Arnold (Soph) 23.9 Erran Pagan (Fr) 24.2 Joe Feliciano (Soph) 24.6 Devonta Davis (Fr) 24.7 Chris Flores (Soph) No meet this weekend ... Prom ... school policy. Next meet ...Tuesday at Oswego (vs Morris and Oswego) ... everyone goes. Kaneland Invitational (Varsity only) ... Saturday, April 21 ... accuweather predicts 78 and sunny. Go Tigers. |
