  +++

  Belleville West is young, deep, and very talented.  Patton Segraves (Harrisburg-99) has done an incredible job, turning a program around in only his second season.

  Herrin will contend for the Class A State Championship after winning the 3rd Place trophy last year.  Chad Lakatos (Harrisburg-92) continues to build his program.  Eric Thompson returns after high jumping 7-2 last season.  He looked fantastic Saturday long jumping 23-6 and winning the 200 meters (23.1).

  Our best sprinter, Sophomore Jake Arnold, may have been the fastest sprinter in the meet but did not participate due to a minor injury (coach's decision).  Without Jake, we still placed 2nd in the 4x2 and 3rd in the 4x4.

  Sophomore Andrew Karas was our only winner (3200).

  Jinks Arnold had his best day so far running 6.6 in the 55 and an outstanding 24.2 lead-off in the 4x2.

  Freshman Kevin Capodice ran 2:10.7 in the 4x8 (first 800 of the year ... has yet to run further than 200 meters in practice).

  Sophomore Dominique Ware looked good in the 4x4 running 54.9.

  Chester Bryant (basketball) looked great in his first-ever track meet ... 6.8 in 55, 24.8 split in 4x2.

  Freshman Devonta Davis set another school indoor record in the Long Jump (18-10).

  This meet points to the fact that we have sooooo much work to be done in the specialty events ... Hurdles, Pole Vault, Triple Jump, and High Jump.  Good track teams are good in the technique events ... and we are not (yet).

  We had some VIPs present at the meet ...

  Mike Shine (1976 Montreal Silver Medalist) is an assistant coach for Champaign Centennial http://www.hurdlesfirst.com/mikeshine.htm . Mike's son will join the team after his swimming season is complete.

  Two of Dike Eddleman's grandsons compete for Champaign Centennial.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dike_Eddleman

  Belleville West's best 800 runner, Danny Lisch, is the son of former Notre Dame QB Rusty Lisch.  His older brother is the great point guard for St. Louis University, Kevin Lisch.

  Next meet at Lockport Saturday.
