2007 IHSA State Track & Field
Championships
Friday Prelims ... 4x1 Heat #3 http://www.ihsa.org/activity/trb/2006-07/aa-8-pre.html Plainfield North 43.23 (4th in heat) (Jinks Arnold, Dominique Ware, Chester Bryant, Jacob Arnold) 400 Heat #2 Jacob Arnold 48.75 (2nd in heat) QUALIFIED FOR FINALS http://www.ihsa.org/activity/trb/2006-07/aa-14-pre.html Saturday Finals ... 400 Finals Jacob Arnold 49.95 9TH PLACE MEDAL http://www.ihsa.org/activity/trb/2006-07/aa-14-fin.html +++ We ran OK in the 4x1 ... looked good but did not run the race we did at Sectional (42.5). Jacob ran decent on Friday to qualify but had the 6th best time overall ... causing him to draw lane 8 in the in the finals. Jacob had two options ... play it safe and place 6th or 7th ... or ... take a risk and set the pace. We chose the latter. Jake was ahead at the 200 (21.9) and at the 300 (34.4). However, Jake tightened up late and finished poorly. The good news, Jake won our first ever state medal and he will return next year, faster than ever. Competence comes before brilliance, good comes before great. We had a good season. +++ Our 2007 season reminds me of a quote I found in a book I read last summer written by John Wooden. "I am not as good as I ought to be, Not what I want to be, Not what I am going to be, But I am thankful that I am better than I used to be." We made great progress this season but we look forward to so much more in 2008. All state results can be found at ... http://www.ihsa.org/activity/trb/index.htm My congrats to Chad Lakatos. Chad ran the 400 for me in 1991 and placed second in the state. He ran again in 1992 but finished a disappointing 3rd. Chad's teams were the beginning of an incredible 14-year run at Harrisburg High School that resulted in three state championships and eight state trophies. In 2007, Chad coached his own team, the Herrin Tigers, to the Class A State Championship. Also, congrats to my coaching friends, Leroy Millsap (Cahokia, 1st AA) and Mike Garcia (Springfield Lanphier, 3rd AA). |
