Competition Information

What is TDI?
The PNHS Tigerettes are members of and compete with the Team Dance Illinois (TDI) .  Member schools hold regional competitions throughout the months of November to February.  There are several categories of dance that squads can enter.  The Varsity categories are divided up by school size and JV categories compete against other junior varsity level teams.  The Tigerettes plan to attend four TDI regional competitions each year.  They start preparing for these competitions in October.  It is a team effort to decide on what category to enter, what "theme" our routines will be, and what costumes to wear.  The team captains do the choreography and music along with the coach.  The teams work on perfecting their routines for months.  They normally enter their first competition in January.

What competition categories do the Tigerettes enter?

The Varsity Tigerettes decided to enter the Pom and Kick categories this year. TDI allows two dances to advance to State. The JV Tigerettes decided to enter the Kick and Pom categories.  All categories have unique characteristics and requirements. The Pom category includes dancing with poms, including visual effects, multiple formation changes and pom switches in addition to dance elements.  Pom pictures and stoy-telling with your poms are important aspects to the Pom category. The Kick category includes various types of kicks along with dance technique.  Varsity and JV squads need to include a minimun of 50 high kicks. In addition to kicks, dance technique like turns and leaps are included.

In the past, Varsity has competed in the Hip-Hop category. The Hip-Hop cateogry involves isolation moves, pop & locking, breakdancing and floorwork. Unison, "attitude", precision and originality is extremely important in this category.

Where do the Tigerettes compete at?
TDI competitions may change sites from year to year, however, the Tigerettes will try to compete at the same schools each season.  The JV squad hopes to qualify to the TDI JV Championship and the Varsity squad hopes to qualify to TDI State.  TDI hosts the JV Championship at Argo, IL and the State Contest at the Peoria Civic Center.
