| Course Description: Chemistry is a lab based chemistry course for college bound students who may or may not to pursue science related studies after graduation. Emphasis is on learning the concepts of chemistry and in developing problem-solving skills not only to use the chemistry but also in everyday life. Laboratory experiences will enable development of problem-solving and critical thinking skills as well as the application of chemistry to everyday situations. Chemistry covers such topics as; measurement, conversion factors, energy, atomic structure, chemical names and formulas, gas laws, bonding, matter, periodic table and it's history, the mole, Avogadro's number, acid/bases/salts, thermal energy, Stoichiometry, and solutions. Chemistry can also delve into the environment around us; the ozone layer, acid rain, nuclear chemistry, air pollution, water pollution and the atmosphere. |
