HOW
PARENTS CAN HELP |
![]() |
|
1. Encourage your child to teach you words that he/she has learned. 2. Point out articles on items in the news having to do with foreign countries. 3. Before vocabulary quizzes, ask him/her words in English and have him/her say and write the words in French. 4. Before a lesson quiz or unit test, have him/her explain the material to you. 5. Encourage him/her to read out loud, use French at the dinner table, in the car, etc. 6. Watch French movies and/or television programs (if available). 7. Be enthusiastic about what they are learning. 8. Encourage him/her to use French with his/her friends. (This may be the hardest for a parent who doesn’t understand French, but it is the best motivation for your child). 9. Encourage your child to use French with native speakers (if available). 10.
Applaud what he/she knows. Remember that it takes years to learn a foreign
language. Don’t expect fluency after one year. |
